Double features were on the card for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Late Models at the Dubuque Co Fairgrounds. It was also the Mike Schmidtt Memorial Night at the Fairgrounds. The first feature was a make-up from a feature back in July that was rained out halfway thru the program. The Battle for the Track Championship is also in high gear as 2 more weeks are left for Season Championship Points.
The first feature of the night saw Danny Shelliam just from his pole starting position into the lead. The track was super fast and Shelliam put up a blistering pace. Ace Ihm gave chase to Shelliam but this feature belonged to Shelliam. Ihm settled for second, Ronnie Barker third, Gary Crawford fourth, and Andy Eckrich rounded out the top 5 in 5th.
The regular feature pitted a battle between Luke Merfeld, Curt Martin, and Ronnie Barker. All three would take turns at the lead with Merfeld running the high line and Martin and Barker running the low grooves. When the final checkered flew, it was Ronnie Barker grabbing the win ahead of New teammate Curt Martin. Luke Merfeld finished a great run in the third position. Gary Webb and Chad Simpson rounded out the top 5.
Ronnie Barker looked to be back to his old ways and charged from near the back in the Modified Division and passed Mark Schulte for the Modified feature win. Points Leader Schulte settled for second with Scott Nesteby, Steve Wetter, and Skip Culbertson all in the top 5.
Justin Mitchell used patience and it paid off for the Rookie Pro Stock Driver from Cedar Rapids. Mitchell grabbed the lead late in the feature and took the win ahead of Brian Beaudry, early race leader Ken Martelle, Keith Kiernan, and 5th place Jeff Valentine.
The Stock Car Division saw Jason Rauen return back to victory lane ahead of Luke Goedert, Jarvis Eastlick, Jon Gobrecht, and Jerry Merkes.
Jacob Seegmiller used a last lap pass to win in the B-mod division. BJ Schmitt and Jed Freiburger rounded out the top 3.
Jason Seegmiller took his turn in Victory Lane in the Limited Stock Division, his first win of the year. Chuck Schmitz won in the Farley Flyer Division.
Just 2 more weeks for the battle of the Point Championships remain at the Dubuque Speedway. Next Sunday it's Back to School night at the Fairground presented by EDSB and Drew Cook Excavating.
