July 10, 2005
July 10th marked the halfway point of the racing season at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds and the NASCAR Dodge Racing Series. Gary Webb has done about everything a driver could do in winning races at Dubuque. The former NASCAR National Champion and Points Champion in years passed has won 16 out of 18 features, won from the rear, swept double Late Model features in one evening and after the races Sunday Night, he can now put down in the record books that he has driven a completely different car and motor and still scored the win. Webb, the winner the night before of the Grant Co Midseason Championship found out early Sunday Morning that his car would not be able to compete later on in the evening at Dubuque because of internal motor problems that he discovered getting ready for Sunday Night. After making a call to his friend Hal Russell, Webb would pilot the Z-2 Late Model for the win. Steve Boley would lead early on in the feature, but Webb was on the move in his familiar style. Just passed the midway point Webb started to catch Boley and on lap 23 of the 35 lap feature, Webb moved into the lead. Boley would suffer mechanical problems a few laps later and wound up pulling out. Behind Webb, a dandy battle was building between Points Leader Ronnie Barker, Ace Ihm, and Bobby Moyer with all 3 drivers changing positions over the final few cricuits. With a last lap move, Ace Ihm finishes 2nd, Moyer 3rd, Barker 4th, and Gary Crawford rounding out the top 5.
It's been a little while since Scott Nesteby has visited victory lane at the Dubuque Speedway, but the seasoned Veteran still can get things done and he did just that for the Midseason win in the NASCAR Modified division. After the win, Nesteby said in Victory lane that he would like to dedicate the win to the great job that the Fire and Safety Crew did on Friday Night at the Farley Speedway. Points leader Mark Schulte finished 2nd, with Jason Schueller 3rd, Ronnie Barker 4th, and Steve Johnson 5th.
Rookie Pro Stock Driver Justin Mitchell is having a season for the record books. Mitchell grabbed his 4th win of the season and 2nd one at the Dubuque Speedway. Levi Benn gave chase and wound up 2nd, Sam Harroun 3rd, Jeff Valentine 4th, and early race leader Keith Kernan 5th.
Former Stock Car Champion Jason Rauen continued his winning ways by taking the Stock Car feature by holding off Retired Driver Nutsy Ahmann. The finishing order for this division was revised after some on track incidents for rough driving and common courtesy to Officials after the race was completed.
Jacob Seegmiller won the B-Mod feature, Denny Udelhofen took the win in the Limited Stock Class, and Shawn Stackis won the Farley Flyer 4 Cyl division.
Racing action continues this Sunday Night with Dodge Night at the Races. Hot Laps at 6 PM with racing action to follow. For more information, log onto the web site at www.Simmonspromotionsinc.com
