Barker, Ahmann, Wilson claim Dubuque victories before Mother Nature throws the checkered flag with rain.
Eastern Iowa has been begging for rain since Summer began back in the middle of June. Mother Nature decided to answer the call for rain in a BIG way but only over middle Dubuque County and much of it over the Dubuque Fairgrounds. Three Features got in the books before the heavy rains came on a hot sticky night.
Ronnie Barker has been trying to shake the bad luck bug that seems to stay on the Dubuque Veteran for the start of the 2005 Modified Season. Barker was able to shake the bug off long enough and claim the Modified win Sunday Night. Barker had picked up the feature win earlier in the weekend at the Farley Speedway in both his Modified and the Late Model owned by Ed White. Barker grabbed the lead early and won the chase to the checkers ahead of Skip Culbertson. Steve Wetter finished 3rd, Scott Nesteby 4th, and Points Leader Mark Schulte 5th.
In the Stock Car division, you can tell it's getting close to the Dubuque County Fair. Duane "Nutsy" Ahmann has come out of his hibernation and is back behind the wheel of the back-up car for Jason Rauen. "Nutsy" grabbed the lead and would not be denied the win in the Stock Car class. Luke Goedert gave chase but settled for 2nd, Jerry Merkes 3rd, Jason Brimeyer 4th, and Points Leader Jason Rauen 5th.
A first time winner entered Victory Lane in the Limited Stock Class. It's been 3 year coming but Kim Wilson found his way to the lead and the win in the Limited Class. Kelly Welter ended up 2nd, Becky Roth was 3rd, Jeff Willis 4th, and Phil Holtz 5th.
The Pro Stock just started there feature before the rains came and washed out the racing for the evening. The Pro Stock Feature will start the evening off next Sunday, July 24th with 6 laps in the book. The other features will be made up at a later date including the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Late Model Feature. Log onto the SPI web site for more details at www.Simmonspromotionsinc.com
