Sunday Night July 31st brought to a close the final night of the Dubuque County Fair. A huge crowd was on hand to watch the exciting action on the 3/8th's mile Dirt Speedway under beautiful weather conditions.
The Late Model feature saw 2 drivers battling to win their first feature win of the year at the Dubuque Co. Speedway. Jeremiah Hurst jumped to the early lead in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series. Hurst would pace the field in the early going. Andy Eckrich worked his way into the top 3 from his 3rd row starting position early on and started to set his sites on Hurst. On lap 10, Eckrich caught Hurst and was looking for the pass. Opportunity came his way when on lap 13, the cars of Hurst and Eckrich came upon lap traffic. With both cars running the high groove going down the backstretch, Eckrich was able to use the lap car for a pick on Hurst and take the lead thru turns 3 & 4. Eckrich survived a couple late race cautions to go on and win the Late Model Feature. Hurst settled in for second holding off Ace Ihm who ended up 3rd. Steve Boley and Gary Webb rounded out the top 5. The Points Leader going into the night Ronnie Barker got caught up in a late race caution that sidelined him to the pits and a 12th place finish. With Barker's misfortune, Ace Ihm has taken a narrow lead going into the final month of the year for the Chase to the Championship Point Standings.
Darren Mish took advantage of his pole starting postion in the Modified Division. Mish was able to keep his car pinned to the bottom and lead the feature flag to flag. The win would not come easy as Mish had to hold off early challenges from Co-Points Leader Mark Schulte early on in the race. The Other Co-Points Leader going into the night was Jason Schueller. Schueller jumped into the mix just passed the halfway mark and moved into the second position. Schueller working the extreme high line was nearly able to pull off the pass late in the race on the high groove, but Mish kept it straight and low on the bottom and pulled out the Victory. Schueller after at hard battle settled for 2nd and the points lead. Steve Johnson was 3rd, Schulte 4th, and Scott Nesteby finished 5th.
The Pro Stock division had a tough time getting things going in the early part of the feature on the slippery track. Once the drivers were able to get adjusted, Jimmy Brokus took the lead from early race leader Ken Martelle. Jeff Valentine had an impressive run starting from last (17th) and was able to avoid early trouble and get into the top 5 by the time 2 laps were completed. Valentine would put some pressure on Brokus but settled for 2nd. Levi Benn worked his way back from numerous pit stops early on and finished 4th with Rookie Jeremy Gengler 5th.
Nutsy Ahmann made it 2 Dubuque Fair Feature wins in a row as he took the Wednesday Night and Sunday Night features in the Stock car division. Luke Goedert came from and early race spin to get back to 2nd. Kelly Welter, Jason Brimeyer, and Jarvis Eastlick rounded out the top 5.
Jacob Seegmiller kept it low and tight in the B-mod feature. Seegmiller came from the middle of the pack to grab the lead early and take the win ahead of Eric Glendenning, Jason Roth, Points Leader Jed Freiburger, and Jerrett Franzen.
Becky Roth grab the lead late in the Limited Stock Class from Jason Seegmiller and won the 10 lap feature. Seegmiller settled for second with Roger Winkers, Denny Udelhofen and Chad Post finishing up the top 5.
2 features events were run for the large car count of Farley Flyers. John Flurry missed his heat race to go home and get his back-up car. Flurry started last in the field and worked his way into the lead just passed the halfway point. Jeremy Campbell applied pressure and took the lead shortly until the caution flag waved and this would give the lead back to Flurry. Flurry goes on to win over Campbell and Justin Kay. The other feature win in the Farley Flyer's went to the Birthday Boy of John Campbell. John turn 21 and you couldn't have picked a better present for the racer from Dubuque as he was all smiles in Victory lane with his 1st Dubuque Co Fair Trophy. Brandon Beschan ended up 2nd and Jake Yager 3rd.
