Gary Webb Hammers Down to Take Checkers at Dubuque
June 5, 2005
Webb/Schulte/Beaudry/Rauen/Freiburger/Roth/Zrostlik/Kummerude "Nail Down" Feature Wins at Craftsman Tool Night at Dubuque

The fans of the Dubuque Speedway were treated to a hot Sunday weather wise and hot action on the track in all 7 divisions.

Gary Webb from Bluegrass, IA may have been the last one to sign in at the pit shack at the Dubuque Co Fairgrounds due to a family graduation commitment but was the first to cross the finish line in the 25 lap late model feature on the multi-grooved speedway. Webb started on the inside of row 3 as 1M of Rob Moss lead them to the green & the first circuit around the 3/8 mile speedway. Andy Eckrich took over the point on lap 2 as Webb followed in the second spot after a lap 1 caution. By lap 3, Webb was working the inside groove in typical fashion as he powered his way to the front followed by the 37B of Ronnie Barker. The final caution of the night came when Bobby Moyer spun in turn 3 on lap 9. Webb had built a small lead over Barker before the yellow came out with Jeremiah Hurst running in 3rd. As the race resumed on lap 10, the 41J of Jeremiah Hurst turned on the burners to take the 2nd position from Barker from his 15th starting position. But the laps ran out for the 41J as the 2000 national champion Webb worked lap traffic masterfully and went on to win the late model feature. Hurst was second, followed by Barker, Ace Ihm, and Jeff Aikey rounded out the top 5.

Mark Schulte is on a hot streak as he goes to Victory lane in the Modified division for the second time in 3 days. Mike Burbridge took the lead on lap 1 from his 3rd starting position as Schulte continued to make his way to the front starting 8th. By lap 8 Schulte was right on the back bumper of Burbridge. By lap 16 it was a three way battle between Burbridge, Schulte and Wetter as the fans were on there feet. On lap 19 Schulte made the pass in turn 2 on the outside of Burbridge as the trio continued to battle for the top spot. On the last lap Burbridge made final attempt to get by Schulte on the back stretch & appeared to headed to another feature win when Schulte snuck on the outside coming out of turn 4 to nip Burbridge at the finish line. Wetter finished 3rd, Scott Nesteby finished 4th, and Jerry Miles finished 5th.

18 year old Brian Beaudry takes his first ever A main feature in the pro stock division as he takes the lead on lap 10 & drives on to the checkers. Beaudry was followed to the line by Jeff Valentine, Jimmy Brockus, Ken Martelle, and Justin Mitchell as your top 5.

"Racin Jason" Rauen rides the rim to take the lead on lap 3 from Jarvis Eastlick to take the win in the Hobby Stock division. Jerry Merkes finished 2nd, Ed Mcintyre, Luke Goedert, Jarvis Eastlick rounded out the top 5.

Jed Freiburger cruised to an easy B-Mod feature win ahead of Jason Roth, Jacob Seegmiller, Jerett Franzen, Rusty Deshaw to score his 1st feature win at Dubuque this year.

Becky Roth came from the back twice to win the 10 lap limited stock feature. Roger Winkers finished 2nd, Kelly Welter 3rd, Jaime Neuhaus 4th, Ryan Felderman 5th.

Joe Zrostlik & Brian Kummerude each won Farley Flyer 4 cyl division 10 lap features & continue to be tied for first in hotly contested points battle.
