The Palace of Speed hosted some exciting action in feature competition at Craftsman/USG Night at the races on Friday Night. The fans were treated to thunder & lightning in the skies as well as on the track with lots of passing in all divisions on the multi-grooved 1/2 mile track.
Mark Schumacher jumped out into the early lead in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Late Model feature on lap 1 from the pole position. Jeremiah Hurst gave chase to Schumacher as well as Curt Martin, and Ronnie Barker. On lap 2, Hurst would make the pass on Schumacher taking along Curt Martin & Ronnie Barker who would battle for the 2nd spot. Martin would challenge for the lead on lap 3 & make it stick as Barker took over the second spot. Martin & Barker would battle for the lead the next 6 circuits with "Mr Excitement" Ace Ihm working his way up to the 3rd position. On lap 10, Ihm would sneak by Martin to take over the top spot. Racing action on Lap 11 was stopped as yellow was displayed for rain. Continuous rains forced SPI officials to halt racing action for the evening. The unfinished Late Model Feature from tonight will continue next week where it left off(Lap 11). Ace Ihm was leading with Gary Crawford 2nd, Jeremiah Hurst 3rd, Steve Boley 4th and Curtin Martin running 5th.
Dave Hammond shot to the early lead in the Modified Feature with Ken Kostenbader in hot pursuit. Kostenbader would make the pass on Hammond on lap 3 to take the top spot with Ronnie Barker nipping at his heals. Barker would make the pass on Kostenbader on lap 5 to become the new leader. Hard-charging Jason Schueller would work his way up to 2nd spot on lap 6 & set his site's on the leader. On lap 14 the number 3 of Schueller would power passed Barker to take the top spot. Scotty Nesteby would also pass Barker to take the runner-up spot on lap 16 as Barker appeared to be fighting a mechanical problem. Schueller was able to hold off Nesteby the last 4 laps to take the exciting victory. Nesteby would settle for 2nd, Steve Johnson was 3rd, Jerry King was 4th and Leon Wilson was 5th.
First year driver Justin Mitchell continues to "turn heads" in the Pro Stock division. Joel Callahan took the lead early but Mitchell from the 10th starting position would quickly pick cars off 1 by 1 to take over the point on lap 4 with Jimmy Brockus in hot pursuit. New point leader Mitchell & Brokus would battle it out the next 10 laps as Mitchell hangs on to score the win. Jimmy Brokus settled for 2nd, Brian Beaudry was 3rd, Jeff Valentine 4th and Ken Martelle rounds out the top 5.
In the Stock Car Division, it was Team 98 night as "Racin Jason" Rauen is back in victory lane as he takes the win in the Stock Car Division. Rauen took the lead on the high line from current points leader Luke Goedert & Jerry Merkes on white flag lap & held off Goedert to the checkers. Goedert ended up 2nd, Jerry Merkes 3rd, Jarvis Eastlick 4th, and Travis Kaiser 5th.
Shawn Thomas took the lead from the outside pole position in the B-Mod division & lead for the first 2 circuits but Jed Freiburger took the lead on low side on lap 3. Freiburger would march on to take the win after starting 3rd ahead of Jeremy English. Jacob Seegmiller was 3rd, Rusty Deshaw 4th and Kenny Boyes round out the top 5.
The Limited Stock division feature was rained out.
The Farley Flyer 4 cyl division was a fast and furious race with Shawn Stackis taking the lead on lap 4 & never look back to take the checkers with Jenna Barthelmes pressuring the entire race.
Racing action at the Farley Speedway continues with more of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series next Friday night for EDSB Back to School Night at the races.
