BUDWEISER OPEN LATE MODEL SHOOTOUT TAKES CENTER STAGE IN DAVENPORTApril 8, 2001 The Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport Iowa will play host to the first Budweiser Open Late Model Shootout of the 2001 season this Friday, April 13th. Qualifying for the $6000 to win 50 lap feature event will be done via a system of passing points during the heat race events that kept fans on their feet with plenty of side-by-side racing action all evening. New for 2001 will be the addition of a six car, six lap Cutting Edge Fast Dash for the top points earners after the heat races and an Auto Acres Feature event paying $700 to win for those drivers failing to qualify for the main event. Also new for 2001 will be the implementation of double wide restarts for the feature events. Last years inaugural Open Shootout drew 68 drivers that thrilled fans when local driver Brian Birkhofer battled with Shannon Babb during the early in the event while later fending off the furious charge of Joe Kosiski blasting his way to the front from the eighteenth starting position. Heat winners that evening included Shannon Babb, Steve Lurvey, Dave Eckrich, Rusty Zook, Darren Miller and Terry Neal while Steve Kosiski and Rick Auckland topped the consolation events. In addition to the Late Models, the National Kidney Foundation "Tour For a Cure" modifieds will be competing on the half-mile track. Gates open at 4 pm with hot laps scheduled for 6:30. Admission will be $18 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for kids 6-10. All pit passes will be $25 with a minimum age of 16 to enter the pit area. |
