MILLER SCORES HAT TRICK IN DUBUQUE
NASCAR WEEKLY RACING SERIES

Darren Miller scored his third straight NASCAR Weekly
Racing Series Late Model feature win at the Dubuque Speedway on Sunday August
19th, his fourth for the season on the high banked 3/8 mile clay oval.
Miller became the fifth and final leader of the event
following a spate of early yellow flags, snatching the point away from Mark
Curwen following a lap five caution. Lap six brought out the final yellow,
providing Denny Eckrich with an opportunity to challenge for the lead, hounding
Miller high and low until the pair began racing through lapped traffic on the
fifteenth circuit. Miller's low line around the track proved to be the faster
route as he stretched out his lead and was able to notch his third consecutive
feature win. Eckrich held on to second at the checkers while Mark Merfeld
bested points leader Gary Webb for the third spot. Clint Hines improved his
fourteenth place starting spot to round out the top five.
Ron Barker took home a the time-shortened Modified win,
scoring his fourth feature win of the season. Many cautions dotted the race
early, forcing officials to call the race on the thirteenth lap. Jerry Miles
led early before surrendering the top spot to Barker following a lap three
restart. Ryan Dolan kept the points battle tight by posting a runner-up finish
ahead of Scott Nesteby, Sean Rupp and Miles. Rookie Dan Welp took home the Pro
Stock feature from the outside front row, dominating the fifteen lap event after
defending his leader status only once when Ty Kleiner and Jeff Tharp dove
underneath to make it three wide as the cars entered the third turn following a
lap seven restart. Jeff Valentine benefited from the fight to take over the
second spot at the checkers, ahead of Jeff Tharp, Rick Brokus and Brian
Culbertson. Larry Benn topped the Hobby Stock action, holding off Jim Turpin's
late race charge. Jeff Rienert, Ed McIntyre and Duane Ahmann rounded out the
top five. Kelly Welter topped Brad Strang and Chad Hallahan in Fun Car action.
Racing action continues at the Dubuque Speedway as "Rumble
on the River" enters it's last two weeks of competition of the season. Hot Laps
