FARLEY ACTION CUT SHORTFARLEY SPEEDWAY Racing action at the Farley Speedway was cut short on Friday May 25th after an accident during the opening lap of the Hobby Stock feature took out a large section of guard rail and a light pole on the backstretch. The melee began when incidental contact forced the car of Paul Beckman into the backstretch wall. The damage caused Beckman’s throttle to stick wide open as he careened across the track and into the inside guardrail. The racecar then became airborne and sheered off a light pole before landing on another car and coming to a rest. Beckman was alert when transported to a local hospital with a broken arm and cheekbone, but otherwise ok. The remainder of the racing program was postponed after promoter Keith Simmons consulted with drivers and determined that the racing surface had insufficient lighting to continue. Feature events for the Hobby Stocks, Pro Stocks, Modifieds and Late Models will be completed before the start of the regular racing action this Friday, June 1st. Fun cars did complete their feature, with Kelly Welter taking home his first win after executing an outside pass on Brian Strang on the fourth lap. BJ Schmitt nipped Strang by a fender at the checkers to take home second, with Ray Fawcett and Brad Strang rounding out the top five. Racing action will continue this Friday, June 1st with the four postponed feature events taking place before the regular racing action. Hot laps are scheduled for 7 pm with racing to follow.
