Farley Speedway Set To Take Green Flag Friday, April 19 

 

The 2002 season is set to get underway at the Farley Speedway, Friday, April 19th. The popular high banked ˝ mile dirt track will again be sanctioned by NASCAR, the prestigious NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge will be the featured attraction every Friday night.

 

The track is located on the west edge of Farley, Iowa just off of US Highway 20. Friday night action will take to the track at 7 p.m. with hot laps with racing competition to follow. The NASCAR Late Models will again headline the card on Friday nights. Defending track champion Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls, Iowa will be back to defend his title. Aikey not only won the Farley track title in 2001 but was also crowned the NASCAR Midwest region champion which earned him over $43,000 for his season which included 9 feature wins in 18 starts at the Farley Speedway.

 

In addition to the NASCAR Late Models, the NASCR Modifieds, Pro Stocks and Hobby Stocks will also be part of the Friday night programs. All new to the Farley Speedway for 2002 will be the Farley Flyers, the Flyers are a front wheel 4 cylinder division. The concept of the Flyers is to create a much less expensive way for new competitors to get involved in the great sport of auto racing.

 

In addition to the regular Friday night programs Keith Simmons of SPI and Joe Hayes, marketing director for SPI have added several special events to the 2002 schedule. The popular Budweiser Open Late Model Shootouts will visit the Farley Speedway 3 times in 2002. The first will open a 4 day swing on Friday, May 24th, the second Shootout will be part of the 4th of July 4 day swing on July 5th, the final Bud Shootout will be the headliner of the Silver Anniversary edition of the “Yankee Dirt Track Classic”  September, 11 thru 14th.  A new attraction to the Farley Speedway will feature the Renegade Stars Late Model series and the Northern All Stars coming to Farley on July 19th and 20th. This special will bring top drivers from the mid-east to the Farley Speedway to challenge the best of the Midwest.

 

Several improvements have been made at the Farley Speedway and more are on the way. Ten new VIP suites have been built, an all new track lighting system is on the way. Construction of an all purpose building is also in the works. The new building will be used for race functions plus will be available for private parties, such as wedding receptions.
