Bud Open Late Model Shootout Opener at Davenport Speedway - Friday, April 12Simmons Promotions is proud to announce that the race fans favorite, Budweiser Open Late Model Shootouts will return in 2002 with an expanded schedule. The season will open at the super fast ½ mile Davenport Speedway on Friday, April 12th the event will be presented by Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation. The dirt track is located on the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds located on West Locust St. in Davenport, Iowa. The Bud Open Late Model Shootout opened the 2001 campaign in Davenport with Steve Boley piloting his Ron Alpen Ford Mustang to an impressive win over a star-studded field of 67 open Late Model competitors. The Budweiser Open Late Model Shootouts provide the fans with a format that rewards drivers for advancing positions through heats to qualify for the main event starting positions. No time trials are held and the drivers must be ready to race as hard as possible when they hit the track. Friday, April 12th action will take to the track at 6:30 with hot laps and racing will follow. The Modifieds will also be in action as the Budweiser Open Shootout season gets underway. The list of drivers expected to compete reads like a virtual who’s who of Late Model Dirt track racing. Traveling stars expected to compete include Billy Moyer Jr. (Arkansas), Don O’Neal (Indiana), Shannon Babb (Illinois), Rick Aukland (Ohio) and Dan Schlieper (Wisconsin). Local standouts expected to compete include Gary Webb, Steve Boley, Brian Birkhofer, Jeff Aikey, Denny & Dave Eckrich, Ray Guss Jr., Darren Miller and many more.
