Ohrt Scores West Liberty Win On Hollywood Graphics Night
Hollywood Graphics sponsored the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series program on Saturday night at the West Liberty Raceway. The night produced 2 first time winners and 2 repeat winners for the 2002 season at the ½ mile dirt track located on the Muscatine County Fairgrounds in West Liberty.
Monte Ohrt took his Hollywood Graphics sponsored car into victory lane on Saturday night topping a field of 34 NASCAR Late Model drivers. Ohrt chased down his teammate Tom Cannon and made the pass for the lead with 7 laps to go in the feature. Ohrt went on to score his first win of the 2002 season. Bobby Sexton made a strong run late in the race to spoil a one two finish for the Cannon/Ohrt race teams. At the finish line it was Ohrt over Sexton with Cannon completing the top three.
The Miller Time Modified feature win went to Scott Megonigle in the 20 lap event. Megonigle started the main event in the 11th position but quickly worked into contention for the lead. Megonigle took the lead from Jim Vest and went on to record the win. Todd Stoolman ran a very strong race in taking second ahead of Vest at the checkers.
Andy Eckrich made a return visit to victory lane in the Pro Stock division on Saturday night. The youngest of the three racing Eckrich brothers took the 15 lap feature win over Chad Simpson. Stormin Norman Bean crossed the finish line in third.
Ron Schruers made his first ever visit to the West Liberty Raceway victory lane in the Hobby Stock feature. Schruers led the feature flag to flag holding off a late race charge by Davey Elliott. Dan Albright took third in the 10 lap main event.
Saturday, June 29th the West Liberty Raceway will host the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series with another night of wheel to wheel action sponsored by the Corner Tap of Atalissa. Race time will be 7 p.m.
