Dave Eckrich Scores Bud Shootout Win At Davenport Speedway

Davenport, Iowa: Memorial Day 2003 provided race fans with perfect weather for the Bud Shootout at the Davenport Speedway. The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation, Hollywood Graphics, Hoosier Tire, Auto Acres Used parts 50 was a very smooth run racing program on a great racing surface on the big ½ mile dirt oval on the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa.

Hollywood Graphics fast dash winner Brian Harris led the feature event for the first seven laps before misfortune struck the 21h of Harris. Harris slowed on the speedway and retired to the infield with mechanical problems. The remainder of the race was run caution free, Dave Eckrich took over the top spot and led for the next 3 laps before Darren Miller was able to move out front. Miller went on to lead the race until lap 21 when the leaders encountered lapped traffic. Dave Eckrich was able to make a move to the high side of a lapped car in turn two and regain the top spot. Eckrich went on to lead the remainder of the race taking the win and the $6,000 paycheck. Dave Eckrich stated in victory lane “ the track was the best that it has been anytime in the last three or four years here at Davenport, I could run anywhere I wanted on the track, your track prep guys did an outstanding job.”

Darren Miller ran second ahead of Denny Eckrich who started in the 11^th position and Matt Furman, who came to the front from a 15^th position start. Dennis Erb rounded out the top five after starting 10^th .  The entire program was run very smoothly with the final checkered of the night waving at 9 p.m.

The Modifieds ran in conjunction with the Bud Open Late Models on Memorial Day at the Davenport Speedway. Mitch Way started on the pole of the feature following his fast dash win. Way went on to pace the feature for the first 13 laps of the 20 lap feature. Way was chased down by Ron Barker, Barker made the pass for the lead on lap 14 and went on to score the win over Way. Jim Sandusky ran third ahead of Rich Smith and Steve Wetter.

The SPI crew will return to the big ½ mile Davenport Speedway on Thursday, July 3^rd with another Bud Shootout, The July 3^rd event will kickoff a three day swing for the Bud Shootouts which will include a July 4^th event at the Farley Speedway and a July 5^th race at the West Liberty Raceway.
