Dan Shelliam Scores First Ever
Late Model Win At Dubuque - Steve Wetter Takes First NASCAR Mod Win
Dubuque, Iowa:
The United States Army sponsored the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series program on a
beautiful Fathers Day at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway. 104 drivers
jammed the pit area for an action packed night of racing.
Rookie Iowa
Illinois Taylor Insulation Late Model driver, Dan Shelliam, added his name to
the winners list on Sunday night. Shelliam took to the bottom of the track and
shot to the front from his third row start and led the race from lap number four
all the way to the checkers. Shelliam was the 2002 NASCAR Pro Stock champion at
the Farley Speedway. Shelliam won the 25 lap main by nearly a straight away over
fellow young gun Jeremiah Hurst. Steve Johnson turned in another fine run in
taking third ahead of Ace Ihm and Bobby Hansen.
Steve Wetter
made his first ever visit to victory lane in the very tough NASCAR Modified
division on Sunday night. Wetter has been a regular competitor at Dubuque for a
few years making the hard fought win very sweet for the Platteville, Wisconsin
driver. Wetter led 19 of the 20 laps feature race that was run caution free.
Wetter took the win by a comfortable margin over Dan Bohr, Jason Schueller, Ron
Barker and Scott Nesteby.
Bobby Moyer
took the 15 lap feature win in the NASCAR Pro Stock feature. Moyer took the lead
from Jim Brokus early in the race and went on to score an impressive win. Moyer
took the win over Pro Stock hotshoe Ty Kleiner. Jeff Reinert came under the
checkers in third.
Mark Massey
continued his unbeaten streak in the B-Modified division on Sunday night. Massey
was involved in a first lap incident and had to restart from the tail but was
still able to get to the front taking the lead on the white flap lap. Jake
Murphy took second at the stripe ahead of Bruce VanGordon.
Jerry Merkes
took the win in the NASCAR Hobby Stock feature on Sunday night topping the field
in the 10 lap feature event. Merkes advanced all the way from a fifth row start
and got front early taking the win ahead of Steve Dunkel, B.J. Schmitt and Jim
Turpin.
The Farley
Flyer victory went to Becky Roth. Becky took the lead at the dropping of the
green flag and went on to show all the guys the fast way around in taking the
ten lap victory. Brian Kammerude took second ahead of Rich Hammer.
