Dubuque Speedway Mod Wins To Barker & Dominacki, Late Model Win To Mark Merfeld
Dubuque, Iowa: The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series featured seven main events on Sunday night at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway. The NASCAR Grand American Modifieds ran twin 20 lap main events with Ron Barker scoring the win in the first feature and the second main went to Bob Dominacki.
The 25 lap NASCAR Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation Late Model feature saw Mark Merfeld take the lead from Matt Mish early and go on to set sail riding the high side of the speedway to the win. Merfeld was pressured by point leader Jeff Aikey the last 15 laps of the race but Merfeld held his line perfectly and refused to make a mistake allowing Aikey to make a pass. Merfeld scored the win by less than a car length over Aikey. Ed Sanger turned in a very strong performance in taking third ahead of Darren Mish and Bobby Hansen.
The first main event of the night was Modified feature number one. Ron Barker took advantage of several early race cautions to work to the front and go on to take the win. Barker took the win over his rival Scott Nesteby. Barker led two laps in recording the win, lap 14 and lap 20. Mark Schulte ran third in the first feature ahead of Sean Rupp. The second Modified feature was the seventh feature of the night and the preferred line was the top side late in the night. Bob Dominacki put his number 5D on the top side and sailed to the win over a very persistent Barker. Nesteby ran third ahead of Schulte and Steve Wetter.
Gary Crawford led one lap of the 15 lap feature on Sunday night. The lap was the one that had the paycheck attached to it. Crawford took the win over Bobby Moyer who had led the race from green to white flags. Scott Riechers took third ahead of Jim Brokus.
Mark Massey took the lead from Ted Engler on lap number 5 and went on to record another B-Modified feature win on Sunday night. Massey extended his point lead with the win. Engler took second at the checkers ahead of Jacob Seegmiller and Bruce VanGordon.
Jason Rauen took the lead on lap number 7 of the Hobby Stock feature and went on to record his second feature win in as many nights in the NASCAR Hobby Stock division. Rauen took the win on Saturday night at the West Liberty Raceway. Mike Hughes ran second on Sunday night ahead of Ed McIntyre and Jim Turpin.
Joe Zrostlik took the lead from Jason Roth late in the Farley Flyer feature and was able to hold off Roth’s last lap charge to score the win. Roth took second at the line ahead of Randy Leehan and Becky Roth.
