Boley Tops Topless NASCAR Late Models At Farley
Farley, Iowa: Night number 4 of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series was held on Friday, May 9th at the high banked ½ mile dirt track Farley Speedway. A good crowd was on hand to take in an action packed night of wheel to wheel racing action.
The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Models ran their entire program topless on Friday night, that is with no tops on the cars. The different look provided the fans with a very good view of the drivers compartments. Steve Boley was not to be denied on Friday night as he scored a clean sweep winning both the third heat and the 25 lap feature event. Boley took the green in the main event from the inside of the fourth row and quickly shot to the front using the low groove. Boley took the lead from early leader Jeff Tharp and went on to record the win over a very strong field of NASCAR Late Model drivers. Jeff Aikey advanced form his 12th position start and was gradually closing on Boley to take second as the checkers fell. Defending track champion Josh McGowan recorded his best run of the early season in taking fourth ahead of Denny Eckrich.
It is always nice to see a first time winner in any division and that happened in the Quarter Master Modified division on Friday night. Jason Udelhoven drove his homemade Modified chassis to his first ever win in only his fifth night of racing in the very tough Modified class. Udelhoven is in his rookie season after making the jump up from the Hobby Stock division. Udelhoven led the race flag to flag and held off a hard charging Ron Barker in taking the checkers first. Barker pressured Udelhoven but Udelhoven held his line perfectly and did not allow the veteran to rattle his confidence. Jason Schueller ran a very strong third ahead of Jerry Miles and Mel Saffran.
Ty Kleiner finished the Pro Stock feature a week ago on the wrecker but the Potosi, WI driver turned his fortunes around on Friday night and scored a very impressive win in the 15 lap main event. Kleiner got out front early and went on to score an easy win. Jim Brokus crossed the finish line in second but was DQ’d after failing post race inspection. Chad Simpson was elevated to second ahead of Bobby Moyer and Jeff Kennedy.
Mark Massey continued his dominance of the B-Modified class scoring his fourth consecutive feature win. The $500 bounty remains in place on Massey. Massey took the win over Jacob Seegmiller and Scott Moffitt.
Jim Turpin took the lead on lap number 4 and went on to score his first win of the early season in the Hobby Stock division. Turpin emerged from a pack and went on to the win over Jason Rauen, Randy Benn and B.J. Schmitt.
The win in the Farley Flyer main event was decided by a mere three feet with Jason Roth taking his Toyota to a hard fought win over Phil Holtz. Russ Thier took third ahead of Al Brink.
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action will continue at the Farley Speedway on Friday nights with hot laps taking to the track at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.
