McGowan Wins NASCAR Thriller At Farley Speedway

Farley, Iowa: It was Dodge night at the races on Friday night as Tauke Motors hosted the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action on the high banks of the Farley Speedway. 107 drivers jammed the pit area for the weekly racing program.

This writer/announcer has seen a lot of races at the  Farley Speedway over the last 14 years and Friday nights Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Model feature has to rank right at the top of wildest most entertaining races ever witnessed a the track. 4 different drivers led the race which at times saw the lead being contested by as many as 5 drivers. Luke Merfeld led the first 8 laps before a slap of the wall slowed the 21 down. Steve (Ace) Ihm took over the point and led for 2 laps before Curt Martin took over the top spot. Martin went on to lead a hotly contested pack for the next 10 laps before defending track champion Josh McGowan was able to get out front. The race was not over as Martin got inside of McGowan on the white flag lap setting up one last shot at the win. The two came off of turn four heading for the checkers wheel to wheel. McGowan was able to take the checkers by a couple of feet ahead of Martin. Ace Ihm took third ahead of Bobby Hansen who had been sent to the tail following an early race spin. Hansen steadily worked back to the front joining the lead pack mid-race. Todd Davis rounded out the top five. The extremely wide smooth track provided three and four wide racing throughout the entire 25 laps.

Mark Schulte took the lead in the Quarter Master Modified main on lap number three and appeared to be on his way to his first ever feature win in the very tough Modified division. Schulte had built a comfortable lead before Ron barker was able to take over second on lap number 9. Barker was able to reel in Schulte and move into the lead on lap 17 and move on to yet another feature win. The Dubuque speedster padded his point lead with the win over Schulte, Scott Nesteby, Sean Rupp and Jason Schueller.

Jeff Kennedy led the NASCAR Pro Stock feature for the first 7 laps before the Pro Stock divisions hottest driver Ty Kleiner was able to get into the lead. Kleiner went on to record the 15 lap main event win over Kennedy and racing veteran Gary Crawford.

Jason Rauen put his number 98 on the top side of the track and went to score the 10 lap hobby Stock feature win. Rauen took the lead from early pace setter Dennis Etten and went on to record the win over Jim Turpin and Steve Dunkel. The Hobby Stock feature was red flagged following a violent snap roll by B.J Schmitt, who was later transported to the hospital complaining of a sore neck.

Mark Massey extended his unbeaten streak at the Farley Speedway in the B-Modified division. Massey scored the win ahead of Jacob Seegmiller and  Steve Perrenoud.

28 Farley Flyers took the green flag for their 10 lap feature event. Damien Miller led the first three circuits before being involved in a turn one incident. Adam Wills took over the lead and went on to record the win. Wills crossed under the checkers ahead of Al Brink and Russ Their.

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action will continue at the super fast high banked ½ mile dirt track Farley Speedway on Friday, June 20th with hot laps at 7 p.m.
