Luke Merfeld Takes Mid-Season Late Model Title At Farley Speedway
Farley, Iowa: Jeff’s Auto Service and Cooper Tire hosted the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Mid-Season championships on Friday, June 20th at the Farley Speedway.
The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Models ran 35 laps to contest the Mid-Season Championships. When the checkered flag flew it was Luke Merfeld taking his first win of the 2003 season in his #21 NASCAR Late Model. Merfeld took the lead at the waving of the green and went on to pace the race flag to flag. Merfeld used the high line of the speedway in out racing a strong field of competitors. Dan Shelliam followed up his win from one week ago at the Dubuque Speedway in taking a hard fought second over Todd Davis. Bobby Hansen and Josh McGowan rounded out the top five.
Quarter Master NASCAR Modified point leader Ronny Barker continued his mastery of the Farley Speedway in notching another feature win and the Mid-Season Championship title. Barker started way back in the 12th position and steadily worked to the front taking the lead following a lap 15 restart from Scott Nesteby. Randy Less was able to make a move off of turn four coming to the checkers that gave him second over Nesteby. Mike Burbridge and Jerry Miles completed the top five.
Chad Simpson took off from his pole position start and went on to lead all fifteen laps of the NASCAR Pro Stock feature. Point leader Ty Kleiner came through the field to take second but could not catch the smooth Simpson. Bobby Moyer and Jim Brokus rounded out the top four.
The SPI $500 bounty continues to be in place on Mark Massey in the B-Modified division. Massey stretched his unbeaten streak to 8 features in a row at the Farley Speedway. Massey scored the victory over Troy Burkhart and Jacob Seegmiller.
Randy Benn made his second visit of the season to victory lane on Friday night topping the NASCAR Hobby Stock feature. Benn took the lead on the white flag lap from Jerry Merkes and held off a last lap challenge by Merkes to record the win. Ed McIntyre took third ahead of Jim Turpin.
23 Farley Flyers took the green for the 10 lap Mid-Season championship feature. When the checkered flag flew it was Brian Kammerude scoring the win. Kammerude drove his Ford Escort to the win over the Dodge Neon of Al Brink. Travis Kaiser took third at the stripe ahead of Jason Roth.
