Boley Scores NASCAR Late Model Win On Legends Night At Farley Speedway - Burkhart Collects B-Modified $500 Bounty
Farley, Iowa: Dubuque Hose & Hydraulics hosted the third annual Legends Night at the Farley Speedway on Friday night. The fans were treated to a great night of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action with a large group of racing legends in attendance.
Steve Boley made a triumphant return to the high banks of the Farley Speedway taking a very impressive win in the 25 lap NASCAR Late Model feature. Boley started the feature in 13th due to the fact that he missed a week. The start deep in the field did not bother Boley as he quickly worked to the front in the caution free main event. Boley caught leader Luke Merfeld on lap number 15 and went on to take the lead and move on to a comfortable win. Merfeld followed last weeks mid-season championship win with a second, crossing under the checkers ahead of Josh McGowan, Curt Martin and Jeff Aikey.
Ron Barker chased down fellow Dubuque Quarter Master Modified driver Scott Nesteby, and took over the top spot just past the midway point of the feature and went on to record another feature win. Barker was able to use the entire track in route to the win. Jason Schueller came on strong to take second over Mark Schulte. Nesteby took the flag in fourth ahead of Randy Less.
Gary Crawford drove Kyle Simmons Pro Stock to a feature win on Friday night. The veteran driver was able to get out front quickly and lead the caution free race flag to flag. Bobby Moyer ran second to the quick running Crawford. Jeff Reinert took the checkers in third.
For the first time this season someone other than Mark Massey took the win in the B-Modified division. Troy Burkhart took the feature win and collected the $500 bounty on Massey posted by Keith Simmons of SPI. Burkhart led only the last lap in taking the win over Massey and Todd Ihde.
Jason Rauen took off from his front row start and went on to take the win in the caution free NASCAR Hobby Stock feature. Rauen easily out raced the field in taking the win over Jim Turpin and Jerry Merkes.
The Farley Flyer Feature came down to a dash to the checkers with leaders Joe Zrostlik and Al Brink coming off of turn four in a virtual dead heat. The two drivers touched and came under the flag stand with the cars glued together. Zrostlik was scored the winner by less than two feet. Brink took second ahead of Becky Roth.
In addition to the six regular classes the Vintage Coupes were also on the program. 11 driver s were on hand with Terry Mattly driving his coupe to the win in the 10 lap feature.
Friday, July 4th the Farley Speedway will host the Bud Open Late Model Shootout with the Midwest’s best Late Model drivers doing battle for 50 laps with a $6,000 paycheck awaiting the winner. All classes will be in action with hot laps at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.
