NASCAR Winston Cup Challenge Races To Full House At Farley Speedway - Bill Elliott, Ken Schrader & Ray Evernham Visit Highlights August 14th
Farley, Iowa: The NASCAR Winston Cup Challenge race held on Thursday, August 14th at the Farley Speedway saw a full house attracted to see NASCAR Winston Cup Stars Bill Elliott, Ken Schrader and NASCAR Winston Cup team owner Ray Evernham. The three celebrities took time away from there demanding NASCAR schedule to visit the Farley Speedway and sign autographs for a solid 2 hours prior to the start of the on track action in the all new Palace Ballroom. Elliott and Schrader both drove in the Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Model division and Evernham drove in the Quarter Master Modified division. 128 drivers signed in to do battle on Thursday night at the Farley Speedway.
The on track action was highlighted by the 35 lap Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Model feature. Steve Boley shot to the front and established himself as the man to beat on Thursday night. Boley advanced from his fourth row start quickly and rode the top side to a comfortable lead. Point leader Jeff Aikey worked into the second position and set up a challenge for the lead just as the race passed the midway point. Aikey took the lead following a heated battle on lap number 22, Boley was able to regain the lead on lap number 27 only to lose the lead one lap later. Aikey shot to the top once out front and went on to record the very important NASCAR Midwest Region win. Boley was unable to hold on to second late in the race as Mike Miller charged to the front late in the to take second ahead of Darren Mish. Boley crossed under the checkers in fourth ahead of Josh McGowan. Schrader and Elliott started the 35 lap feature in 15th and 16th respectively. Schrader advanced to a 8th place finish and Elliott was credited with a 15th place finish. SPI would like to thank Paul Glendenning and Steve Boley for providing the car for Elliott to compete in, Schrader raced his own Federated Auto Parts Late Model.
NASCAR Quarter Master Modified point leader Ron Barker scored his 11th point race win on Thursday night in the 20 lap feature. Barker was able to get by race leader Scott Nesteby on lap number 6 and go on to record the win. Nesteby ran second ahead of Sean Rupp and Larry Herring. Barker provided his backup car to Ray Evernham on Thursday night. The race marked the first time in 12 years that Evernham was behind the wheel of a race car. Evernham drove to a 14th place finish in the 26 car starting field.
Ty Kleiner took a late race lead and recorded the feature win in the NASCAR Pro Stock feature. Bobby Hansen drove Jeff Reinert’s car number 97 to a second place finish ahead of Jeff Kennedy and Bob Moyer.
Mark Massey scored another feature win in the B-Modified division. Massey crossed the stripe ahead of Jacob Seegmiller and Leon Wilson.
Dennis Etten led the NASCAR Hobby Stock feature flag to flag in recording the 10 lap feature win. B.J. Schmitt took second ahead of Dan Allbright and Luke Goedert.
Steve Stackis drove his Mitsubishi to the 10 lap Farley Flyer feature win topping the 23 car starting field. Brian Kammerude ran second ahead of John Flury.
The next event at the Farley Speedway will be Kids Back To School Night sponsored by East Dubuque Savings Bank on Friday, August 22nd. Six Bikes and loads of back to school supplies will be given away along with the annual nickel scramble for the kids. Hot laps will take to the track at 7 p.m.
