Boley Scores NASCAR Win On Army Night At West Liberty Raceway
West Liberty, Iowa: The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series presented by the United States Army was back in action at the West Liberty Raceway on Saturday, May 17th. The action packed night of racing provided the fans with a lot of thrills including three roll over incidents. Fortunately no one was injured in the incidents.
Steve Boley revisited victory lane for the first time in two years after capturing the 25 lap Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation Late Model feature. Boley topped the 29 car starting field. Ray Guss Jr. took command early in the race before Boley was able to move into the lead on lap 16. Sixth row starters Denny Eckrich and Matt Furman followed Boley to the checkers. Jeff Bair and Todd Davis rounded out the top five. The track was very smooth and the track provided several grooves allowing the Late Models to provide the fans with a lot of three and four wide racing.
The Miller Time Modifieds produced another first time winner on Saturday night. Terry Lawson drove his Slaby’s race team #19 to his first ever win on the West Liberty Raceway ˝ mile. Lawson not only won the race over 27 very strong contenders but he won in very convincing fashion. Lawson took the checkers with Larry Herring crossing the line well behind in second place. Scott Megonigle, Dan Chapman and John Brumley completed the top five.
The NASCAR Pro Stock feature was marred by several early yellows before the field was able to run off the final 13 laps non-stop. Gary Beuter was on his way to the win until Chad Simpson caught the veteran on lap 11 and got by and went on to score the victory. Beuter crossed the stripe in second ahead of Jason Gingerich.
Stan O’Brien took the green flag in the NASCAR Hobby Stock feature back in the sixth row and quickly marched to the front taking the lead on lap number four on his way to the 10 lap feature win. O’Brien took the win ahead of Rick Curtis and Dave Wada.
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action will continue at the West Liberty Raceway on Saturday, May 24th as the Memorial Holiday weekend will be in full swing. Hot laps will take to the track at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.
