Boley Scores NASCAR Late Model Win At West Liberty Raceway - Serious Accident Red Flags Late Model Feature
West Liberty, Iowa: The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action at the West Liberty Raceway provided the fans with an action packed thrilling night of racing on Saturday, May 31st.
Steve Boley shot to the front from his third row start in the Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation Late Model feature and was cruising when disaster struck on lap 15. Dave Eckrich was pinched to the outside and made contact with the wall crossing up his car and coming to rest exposed in the middle of the track. Several cars were able to dart either low or high to miss the Eckrich car when a three wide pack came upon the Eckrich car. Rusty Daufeldt was left with no where to go and hit Dave Eckrich at full throttle in the drivers door. Following several anxious moments and some very quick and thorough work by the Speedway Firefighters both drivers emerged from there cars and walked to the ambulance. Both drivers were taken to the hospital for evaluation but appeared to be just severely shaken and bruised. On the restart the race ran the final 10 laps caution free with Boley taking the win over Mike Klinkkammer, Denny Eckrich and Jeff Bair.
Rich Smith driving Tim Zeman’s number 8 Miller Time Modified took the lead on lap number 5 from Jim Vest and went on to record the 20 lap feature win. Smith was very impressive in taking the win over Vest, Rick Hixson and Steve Kohli.
Chris Simpson took the lead in the Pro Stock feature after leader Matt (Bones) Bodman dropped out while leading the race with mechanical failure. Simpson went on to score his second consecutive feature win over Danny Werner, Chad Simpson and Gary Beuter.
Mr. Smooth, Ron Schreurs led the last couple hundred feet to take a close win in the Hobby Stock feature. Schruers was the third different driver to lead in the main event. Roger Whitcomb led the first 7 laps before Jared Collins led the next couple of laps before Schruers took the lead emerging from a three car pack to take the win. Point leader Stan O’Brien took second ahead of Collins.
Saturday, June 7th Noels Tree and Crane Service will be sponsoring the Mid-Season Championship races at the West Liberty Raceway. A 35 lap NASCAR Late Model feature will headline the program. Hot laps will take the green at 6 p.m.
