Zook Blasts to NASCAR Win At West Liberty Raceway

West Liberty, Iowa:  The 3rd night of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action was held on Saturday May 3rd at the West Liberty Raceway on the Muscatine County Fairgrounds in West Liberty, Iowa.

Another outstanding field of 34 Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Models were on hand battling for the 28 starting positions. Ray Guss Jr. took off from his front row start and led the race for the first seven laps before Steve Boley was able to move out front. The battle was on between the two West Liberty hotshoes, but it was not to be for either of the veterans. A lap 11 restart saw Rusty Zook move to the outside in turn two and shoot by both Boley and Guss. Zook went on to pace the field the remaining 14 laps despite the race being slowed by a couple more cautions. Matt Furman advanced from his sixth row start to take second at the stripe ahead of Luke Merfeld, Ron Boyse and Kurt Kile rounded out the top five.

The Miller Time modified feature saw veteran John Brumley lead for the first 7 laps before Matt Ruess was able to capture the point position. Ruess was forced to the pits following mechanical problems on lap 12. Mitch Way took over the lead on lap 12 and went on to record his second win of the young season. Ryan Dolan ran a very strong second. The top two finishers came from the fifth row. Kevin Kile, Terry Lawson and Terry Walker rounded out the top five finishers.

The Pro Stock feature saw hometowner Bruce Miller lead the entire fifteen laps in route to the win. Miller scored the win by a comfortable margin over Matt Bodman and Chris Simpson.

Rick Curtis is back in racing after a year off, and Saturday night was a triumphant return for the Muscatine Hobby Stock driver. Curtis took the lead on lap 4 and went on to take the win over Matt Greiner and Dave Schrier.

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing will continue at the West Liberty Raceway on Saturday nights throughout the summer with hot laps at 6p.m. and racing to follow.
