Noels Tree & Crane Service Mid-Season Championship Wins At West Liberty Go To Eckrich, Lawson, Miller & Allbright
West Liberty, Iowa: Noels Tree & Crane Service of Iowa City hosted the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Mid-Season Championships on Saturday night at the West Liberty Raceway. The entire racing program was run under heavy skies but fortunately the rains held off until the final checkered flag of the night had flown.
The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation 35 lap NASCAR Late Model feature saw Steve Johnson take off from his front row start and lead the first 11 laps before Jeff Bair was able to take over the point in his CRE #28 Late Model. Bair was cruising when a flat tire forced him to the pits on lap # 22. Michael Klinkkammer took over the top spot for the next two laps before point leader Denny Eckrich was able take over the lead. Eckrich went on to record the Mid-Season championship win. Todd Davis came on very strong nipping Klinkkammer for second by a couple of feet. Steve Boley and Bair rounded out the top five.
The Miller Time Modified feature came down to the last corner of the last lap to decide the Mid-Season Championship winner. The leaders came off of turn four three wide with Terry Lawson, Dan Chapman and Scott Megonigle battling for the win. Lawson was able to take the checkers first for his second feature win of the 2003 season at West Liberty. Chapman crossed the line in second but failed to make weight giving the second place finish to Scott Megonigle, who had led the majority of the race. Larry Herring came from dead last to take the checkers in third ahead of Todd Stoolman and Terry Walker.
Bruce Miller took the lead from Matt Brockert early in the Pro Stock championship race and went on to record the win. Miller had the Simpson brothers closing on him late in the race but was up to the challenge in scoring the win. Chris Simpson followed Miller under the checkers with Chad Simpson taking third. Dan Werner took fourth ahead of Gary Beuter. Dan Allbright was the fourth driver to lead the 10 lap Hobby Stock Mid-Season Championship feature on Saturday night. Allbright took the lead from Dave Wada on lap number 8 and went on to score the feature win. Wada took second ahead of Ron Schruers and Matt Greiner.
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing action will continue on Saturday, June 14th at the West Liberty Raceway with hot laps at 6 p.m.
