Boley Scores Memorial Race Win At West Liberty Raceway
West Liberty, Iowa: The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing event on Saturday night at the West Liberty Raceway was held in honor of two Muscatine area men who passed away prior to the start of the 2003 racing season. Both Dave Palmer and Kevin Lowe were avid race enthusiasts, a special benefit auction was held during intermission that saw nearly $4,000 raised that will be donated on behalf of the families to their favorite charities. The auction featured race car body panels being sold that were donated by several race teams. Body panels donated by Brian Birkhofer brought in $1,000.
The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation Late Models ran a 50 lap feature on Saturday night in honor of the Palmer and Lowe Memorial. Michael Klinkkammer led the first 11 laps before Steve Boley was able to move his Ron Alpen Ford Masterbilt into the lead. Boley went on to lead the remainder of the race on a very fast wide race track. Denny Eckrich came on strong late in the race taking second away from Ray Guss Jr. on the last lap. Todd Davis took fourth ahead of Todd Davis.
Young Mitch way led all 20 laps of the Miller Time Modified feature on Saturday night. While Way was building his lead a great battle went on for second. Larry Herring was able to out duel Johnny Spaw for the runner-up spot. Steve Stewart turned in a great run in taking fourth ahead of Todd Stoolman.
Gary Beuter took the lead on lap number three of the Double D Performance Pro Stock feature and went on to lead until the last ½ lap of he 15 lap feature. Beuter could not hold off Chad Simpson as Simpson continued his recent hot streak at the West Liberty Raceway. Beuter finished a close second ahead of John Maher, Chris Simpson and Jason Gingerich.
Doug Yates led the NASCAR Hobby Stock feature from the dropping of the green until the white flag came out. Jared (Lugnut) Collins was able to take the lead on the white flag and go on to hold off Yates for the win. Both Yates and Collins were in search of their first ever wins at the West Liberty Raceway. This night belonged to Collins and Yates will have his night in the near future. Ron Schruers took third at the checkers ahead of Matt Greiner and Dave Schrier.
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing action will continue at the West Liberty Raceway on Saturday, August 2nd with hot laps at 6 p.m.
