Simmons Promotions Sets Ambitious 2003 Schedule
Officials of Simmons Promotions have recently released a schedule that includes 74 race nights for the dirt tracks promoted by SPI. 25 nights of racing are on the docket for the Farley Speedway a ˝ mile high banked dir track located just off of US Highway 20 on the west side of Farley, Iowa. The West Liberty Raceway, a slightly banked ˝ mile dirt track located on the Muscatine County Fairgrounds in West Liberty, Iowa is scheduled to host 24 race dates. The Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway, a high banked 3/8 mile clay track located at the Fairgrounds just west of Dubuque, Iowa is set to host 21 race dates. In addition SPI will promote 4 special events at the Davenport Speedway, a long slightly banked ˝ mile dirt track located on the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds on West Locust Street in Davenport, Iowa.
The season will get underway with the annual Spring Championships to be contested at the West Liberty Raceway on Saturday, April 5th. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge will be in action every Saturday night through Labor Day weekend at the West Liberty Raceway. The Saturday night racing events have been moved up ˝ hour on Saturday nights with hot laps scheduled for 6 p.m. with racing to follow at 6:30 p.m.
Special events at the West Liberty Raceway in addition to the Spring Championships will include the Bud Open Shootout on Saturday, July 5th and the annual “Liberty 100” Friday and Saturday, September 19 & 20.
The Davenport Speedway will host 4 Bud Open Shootouts with the very best Late Model drivers in the Midwest converging on the big ˝ mile on April 11th, May 26th, July 3rd and September 1st.
The Dubuque County Fairgrounds will open on Sunday, April 11th with a special event featuring open Winged Sprint Cars. The Interstate Racing Association Sprinters will bring their mud slinging high speed machines to the high banks of Dubuque to compete with many of the Knoxville Speedway regulars. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge will open on Sunday, April 27th and continue through the end of August. The Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway will host Bud Open Late Model Shootouts on May 25th and August 31st.
The Farley Speedway will open with Friday night weekly NASCAR Racing presented by Dodge on April 18th. Friday, July 4th the Farley Speedway will host a Bud Open Shootout, then on July 15th the traveling superstars of Late Model racing will compete in a $10,000 to win show as part of the UMP Summer Nationals. The 26th annual “Yankee Dirt Track Classic” will bring the curtain down on the 2003 season with 4 spectacular days of racing September 10 thru 13.
