Mish & Ihm Score NASCAR Late Model Wins As 10 Features Highlight Dubuque Speedway Action

Dubuque, Iowa: The Dubuque Speedway hosted the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series with a special night of racing as the fans and drivers celebrated the 4th of July, 2004. The night included a full program of racing with twin 25 lap features for the NASCAR Late Models plus three make up features making for a 10 feature race program.  118 drivers signed in to be a part of the action.

32 outstanding NASCAR late Model drivers signed into the pit area looking to qualify for the twin 25’s. The first 25 lapper saw Darren Mish establish himself early as the man to beat, taking the lead from his second row start on lap number one. Mish led until lap number 11 when Denny Eckrich took over the top spot. Mish would regain the lead two laps later and drive on to the feature win. Denny Eckrich ran second ahead of his younger brother Andy, Ace Ihm and Jeff Aikey rounded out the top five.

The second Late Model feature took the green with Chad Simpson setting the pace. Simpson ran the low line of the track and led the race all the way to the white flag when Ace Ihm was able to make the pass using the extreme top side of the track. Ihm took the win by a car length over Simpson. Denny Eckrich took third ahead of Jeff Aikey and Jeff Tharp.

For the first time in 2004 a driver other than Ron Barker made his way to victory lane in the NASCAR Modified division. Mike Weidemann took the race lead on lap number 6 and went on to record the win. Weidemann held off Greg Chapman at the checkers for the win. Mark Schulte took third ahead of Barker and Jerry Miles.

Another first time winner in 2004 emerged in the very tough NASCAR Pro Stock division. Jeff Valentine took the win over Bob Moyer, Bob Bollon, Keith Kiernan and Ken Martelle. Valentine took the lead on lap number 5 and went on to lead the final ten laps for the win.

The NASCAR Hobby Stock feature win went to B.J. Schmitt. B.J. took the 10 lap feature win over Ed McIntyre and Jason Rauen.

Mark Massey used a last lap pass to take the B-Modified feature win over Jake Seegmiller and Jeremy English.

John Flury took his first win of the season by topping the 10 lap Farley Flyer feature. Becky Roth took second ahead of Brian Kammerude.

The NASCAR Pro Stock make up feature saw Bobby Moyer take lead on lap number 12 and hold off Jeff Valentine for the win. Jeff Kennedy took third.

The Hobby Stock make up feature win went to Jim Turpin. Turpin lead flag to flag for the win taking the checkers ahead of Jerry Merkes and Jason Rauen.

The first race of the night was the conclusion of the B-Modified feature started a week earlier. Mark Massey took the lead late and scored the win over K.C. Ansel setting up what would be a clean sweep night.

The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series will be back in action at the Dubuque Speedway on July 11th with the night beginning with make up features in the NASCAR Modified division and the Late Model division. The Late Model make up feature will be the 35 lap Mid-Season Championship race. Following the make up features a complete racing program will be run. Hot laps will get underway at 6 p.m.
