Rob Moss Collects Big Payday At Dubuque Speedway
Dubuque, IA: The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing action on Sunday night featured EDSB/Drew Cook & Sons Excavating Kids Back to School Night at the races. Seven bicycles were given away, a $500 nickel scramble was held during intermission and the first 100 kids were given back to school packets plus several nice back packs and back to school supplies were given away.
The on track racing action was wild and wooly all night long, the track was in perfect condition allowing the drivers to race from the wall to the rail all night long. The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Model feature saw Rob Moss collect his second win of the year and a very nice payday went with the win. With bonus monies added to the weekly purse Moss walked away with a cool $1,100 for his efforts. Luke Merfeld led the first 4 laps of the 25 lap feature before Steve (Ace) Ihm was able to take over the top spot. Ihm Slipped off the track on lap number 9 giving the lead back to Merfeld. Moss was able to work the bottom side to perfection and was able to move out front on lap number 22 and go on to record the win. Merfeld ran second in the SPI test car officially giving the second position to Jeff Aikey. Jeff Tharp took third ahead of Ihm and Andy Eckrich.
The NASCAR Modified feature belonged to Scott Nesteby from the dropping of the green. Nesteby led the caution free race flag to flag scoring his sixth consecutive feature win. Nesteby took the 20 lap feature win over Steve Wetter and Ron Barker.
Jimy Brokus used the top side to chase down race leader Bobby Moyer and made the pass for the lead on the white flag lap and went on to record the 15 lap NASCAR Pro Stock feature win.
Moyer held on for second ahead of Jeff Valentine.
Scott Reichers emerged from a mad scramble on the last lap of the Hobby Stock feature and was able to get to the checkers ahead of Jim Turpin and Jason Brimeyer. The race leaders came on a lapped car in turn four of the final lap making for a scramble to choose lines to get to the finish line.
Jacob Seegmiller took the lead in the B-Modified feature on lap number 6 and went on to record the feature win. Seegmiller was able to get to the checkers ahead of Eric Glendenning and Mark Massey.
D.J. Laughlin led the Farley Flyer feature flag to flag in taking the win over point leader Becky Roth. Joe Zrostlik and John Flury rounded out the top four.
Season championship races and two track point fund races will be held on Sunday, August 29th at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway. Sunday, September 5th the Dubuque Speedway will host a Bud Shootout with a 50 lap Late Model feature paying a whopping $6,000 to the winner. Racing will continue with an extension of the NASCAR point season with racing in all divisions on Sunday, September 12th.
