Aikey Sails To Dubuque Speedway NASCAR Late Model Win
Dubuque, Iowa: Sunday night the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing program was presented by Craftsman the official tools of NASCAR. The entire program was run very swiftly with the final checkered flag of the night waving at 9:15 p.m.
Jeff Aikey extended his point lead in the Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Model division by winning the 25 lap feature. Jeff Tharp led the race for the first six laps before Mark Merfeld was able to move out front. Merfeld went on to lead the next 12 laps before Aikey was able to grab the lead. Aikey led the remainder of the race on his way to his second feature win of the season at the Dubuque Speedway. The drive of the night was turned in by Steve Johnson in taking second. Johnson dropped the motor in his #77 on Saturday night at the West Liberty Raceway. Randy Franzen came forward to loan Johnson his Pro Stock car so Johnson would be able to earn some points on Sunday night. Johnson and Franzen spent the day changing Carburetors and tires to prepare to run Late Model on Sunday night. Following the heat on Sunday night Johnson made several changes all of which worked as Johnson was able to battle in the feature and come away with a second place finish taking the checkers ahead of Bobby Hansen and Gary Webb.
Ron Barker scored another feature win in the Modified division on Sunday night. The win was certainly not easy as Barker led on the last ½ of a lap. Barker went into the infield on lap number nine and made a quick tire change and came out on the tail of the field. Barker chased down race leader Jerry Miles and made the pass for the lead on the white flag lap in turn number two. Miles took second ahead of Jason Schueller, Mark Schulte and Scott Nesteby.
Ty Kleiner shot to the front early taking the lead on lap number 4 and going on to lead the remainder of the 15 lap feature. Jeff Kennedy drove his #2k to a second place finish taking the flag ahead of Bobby Moyer and Gary Crawford.
Mark Massey started a new win streak in the B-Modified class by winning the 10 lap feature Sunday night. Massey took the win over Scott Schurbon and Jake Murphy.
Jarvis Eastlick took the lead at the dropping of the green and went on to lead the NASCAR Hobby Stock feature flag to flag. Eastlick took the win over Luke Goedert and B.J. Schmitt. Jeff Jorgensen took the lead in his Dodge Neon on lap number 3 and drove on to the Farley Flyer feature win. Jorgensen took the win ahead of Brian Kammerude and Brad Klaas.
