Dubuque County Fair
Wins to Aikey, Wetter, Kleiner, Current, Rauen & Jorgensen
Dubuque, Iowa: The Dubuque County Fair hosted the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
with a special Wednesday night of stock car racing during the 2003 County Fair.
A large crowd attended the action on the high banked 3/8 mile clay track on a
beautiful night for racing.
Jeff
Aikey continued his recent hot streak adding another Iowa Illinois Taylor
Insulation NASCAR Late Model feature win. Luke Merfeld led the first 6 laps
before Aikey was able to capture the lead working the high line of the
multi-grooved track. Aikey went on to record the feature win over Mark Merfeld,
Darren Mish and Steve Johnson.
Steve
Wetter scored his second feature win of the 2003 season in the Modified
division. Wetter held off Ron Barker to take the checkers first in the 20 lap
main event. Jason Schueller ran in the lead pack the entire race before settling
for third ahead of Sean Rupp.
The
NASCAR Pro Stock feature win went to Ty Kleiner. Jim Brokus led the first 5 laps
before Jeff Reinert was able to move out front. Reinert’s lead was short lived
as Kleiner took over on lap number 8 and went on to lead the remainder of the
race. Gary Crawford ran second on Wednesday night ahead of Reinert and Jeff
Kennedy.
Tim
Current visited victory lane for the first time in 2003 topping the B-Modified
division. Current was able to get out front and lead the race flag to flag
taking the win over point leader mark Massey. Jacob Seegmiller took third ahead
of Jay Garvey.
Jason
Rauen took to the high line and rode to the feature win in the NASCAR Hobby
Stock feature. Rauen held off Steve Dunkel at the checkers in scoring the 10 lap
feature win. Mike Lynch took third ahead of Randy Benn.
Jeff
Jorgensen took the 10 lap feature in the Farley Flyer division. Jorgensen drove
his Dodge Neon to the win over the Ford Escort of Brian Kammerude and the
Chevrolet Cavalier of Danny Kennedy took third.
The
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series will be in action again on the final day of the Fair
on Sunday, July 27th.
