Mish Scores Mid-Season Championship
Late Model Win At Dubuque
Dubuque, Iowa: The NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series Mid-Season Championships were held on Sunday, July 6th
at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway. The holiday weekend wrapped up with
a good crowd taking in an action packed night of racing on the high banked 3/8
mile clay track.
The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation
NASCAR Late Models ran a 35 lap feature to decide the Mid-Season Championship.
Darren Mish shot to the front taking the lead on lap number four from Jeremiah
Hurst. Mish started in the fourth position and used the bottom groove of the wet
track to lead the race the final 31 laps. Point leader Jeff Aikey battled his
way to the front but settled for second at the checkers. Jeremiah Hurst ran up
front all race long and finished in third ahead of veteran Rollie Frink. Jeff
Tharp rounded out the top five.
Ron Barker continued his recent hot
streak in the NASCAR Modified class by scoring another feature win on Sunday
night. Barker looked to gain points and NASCAR point leader Jason Schueller, but
2 points is all that Barker gained as Schueller ran second to Barker on Sunday
night. Veteran Scott Nesteby took the checkers in third ahead of Mark Schulte
and Bob Dominacki.
Gary Crawford took another impressive
Pro Stock feature win coming from deep in the pack to overtake early leader
Scott Riechers on lap number three and go on to lead the remainder of the race.
Crawford scored the win over Ty Kleiner and Jim Brokus.
Mark Massey was back in victory lane
on Sunday night after topping the 10 lap B-Modified feature. Massey advanced
from his eighth position start to take the win over Brendan Driscoll and Ted
Engler.
Jarvis Eastlick too the lead at the
dropping of the green flag in the 10 lap NASCAR Hobby Stock feature and went on
to lead the race flag to flag. Eastlick took the Mid-Season Championship title
win over Steve Dunkel and Jim Turpin.
Becky Roth had to borrow a car to
take part in Sunday night’s races, she had the motor expire in her car on
Saturday night. The Farley Flyer driver found the borrowed car to her liking as
she drove to the feature win taking the checkers ahead of Danny Kennedy by about
3 feet. Brain Kammerude drove his Ford Escort to a third place finish.
The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series will
continue on Sunday night July 13th at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds
Speedway with hot laps at 6 p.m.
