Davis Dominates Farley
Farley, Iowa May 7, 2004: The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series
presented by Dodge returned to action after a one week rain delay at the Farley
Speedway on Friday, May 7, allowing Todd Davis to notch his first win of the
young season in dominating fashion. The Late Model feature got off to a scary
start when pole sitter RJ Simon took the wildest ride of his young career, cart
wheeling down the fronstretch after getting pinched into the wall underneath the
flag stand. Simon emerged from his destroyed racer incident uninjured. Davis
inherited a front row starting position when racing finally resumed and set sail
on the top of the racetrack, leading Josh McGowan and Jeff Tharp into the first
corner. 25 fast non-stop laps later Davis posted almost a half lap triumph over
McGowan, Tharp, Steve Johnson and Darren Mish.
Ron Barker overcame his opening night misfortune to post
the 20 lap NASCAR Modified win, leading all 20 laps also in convincing fashion.
Jason Schueller quickly advanced from his fourth starting position into second,
but was unable to chase down the leader despite several late race restarts. Mark
Schulte kept his car on the cushion to post third, fending off the bottom
dwelling Scott Nesteby. Jerry Miles took home the $100 Choo Choo Charlies/EDSB
Hard Charger award for his fifth place performance after starting 14th. Jim
Brokus took home the Pro Stock checkers, taking advantage of a lap five restart
to rocket past early leader Jeff Valentine. Another restart four laps later saw
Bobby Moyer slip past Valentine with Levi Benn and Bob Bollen rounding out the
top five. Jason Rauen didn’t let a fifth place start prevent him from leading
all ten laps of the Hobby Stock main event, running unchallenged until the final
two circuits when Jerry Merkes found something a little lower on track. Rauen
shut the door after Merkes was able to pull even on the last lap, posting the
car length victory. Randy Benn, BJ Schmitt and Luke Goedert rounded out the top
five. Mark Massey avenged his narrow opening night B-Mod loss by beating AJ
Heister, Jed Frieburger and KC Ansel to the checkers. Jake Blumer took home his
second Farley Flyer victory after apparent winner Phil Holtz was disqualified
for rough driving. Brian Kelly ended up second ahead of Brian Kammerude and
Becky Roth.
Racing resumes twice next weekend with a regular NASCAR
Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge full program on Friday May 16th and the
World of Outlaw Late Models invading the Palace of Speed on Saturday May 17th.
