Aikey Sails To NASCAR Late Model Win At Farley Speedway

Farley, Iowa: The Farley Speedway hosted the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series on a very cool Mid-May evening with 102 drivers checking in for an action packed night. The recent rains made for a very heavy fast track on Friday night but the track was very well prepared making for a an exceptionally fast wide race track.

Jeff Aikey powered to the front from his 5th row starting spot and took over the lead on lap four and never looked back as he sailed on to a comfortable win. Aikey was able to put his bright red #77 anywhere on the track that he wanted as he raced to the win. Steve Boley came from a fourth row start to garner a very strong second place finish. The drive of the night was turned in by Luke Merfeld, in his first appearance of the year at Farley, Merfeld came from a 20th position start finish a very impressive third. Steve Johnson and Ace Ihm rounded out the top five.

Ron Barker found the heavy track to his liking as he was able to pass high and low and his way to another NASCAR Modified feature win. Barker made quick work of the field as he took over the lead on lap number three and was not challenged until late in the race when veteran racer Scott Nesteby was able to challenge following a late race caution. Barker took the win over Nesteby, who had started 20th in the 20 lap feature. Mark Schulte continued his strong showings with another top five on Friday night. Schulte crossed the line in third ahead of Randy Less and Steve Wetter.

Bobby Moyer has established himself in the early going of the 2004 season as the man to beat in the Pro Stock division. Moyer scored a very impressive win in the 15 lap feature topping Jimmy Brokus and Jeff Valentine.

Randy Benn took advantage of a late race caution which saw race leader Doug Yates being taken out. Benn was running third when the incident happened involving the leaders, the final two laps saw Benn hold off Jarvis Eastlick and Jerry Merkes for the win.

Jacob Seegmiller topped a strong field of B-Modifieds on Friday night. Seegmiller scored the win just ahead of defending track champion Mark Massey. Red Hughes made his 2004 debut and ran a strong third.

Phil Holtz drove to the 10 lap feature win in the main event for the Farley Flyer division. Holtz out ran point leader Jake Blumer in taking the win. Joe Zrostlik came form mid-pack to take third.

The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series will continue at the Farley Speedway with weekly racing on Friday, May 21st. Hot laps will take the green at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.
