Farley, Iowa: The Farley Speedway kicked off the 4th of July weekend with the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series in action, the Firecracker 40 presented by the Palace Ballroom was the headliner of the action packed night. 110 drivers packed the pit area looking to take home the lions share of the purse.
When the checkered flag flew following the 40 lap NASCAR Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation Late Model feature it was Tiffin, Iowa’s Denny Eckrich making his way to victory lane. The first fifteen laps of the feature provided the fans with outstanding racing as the lead was hotly contested. Jeff Tharp led the first ten laps before teammate Ace Ihm took over the top spot. The lead pack grew to four cars and on the 14th lap the leaders crossed under the flag stand three wide. Lap number 15 saw Eckrich, who had started 14th take over the top spot for good. The 40 lapper was slowed a couple of times for minor cautions, but on each occasion Eckrich was able to hold the lead fighting off the challenges of Steve Boley and later Jeff Aikey and Curt Martin. Martin took second ahead of Steve Johnson, Todd Davis and Jeff Tharp.
Ronny Barker pushed his NASCAR Modified winning streak to 8 with another impressive win. Barker took over the lead after race leader Scott Nesteby dropped into the pit area with apparent heating problems. Barker took over the lead on lap number 9 and went on to score the win. Mark Schulte provided a late race challenge before settling for second ahead of Jason Schueller, Sean Rupp and Korey Burmeister.
