Jeff Bair Scores NASCAR Late Model Win On Dodge Night At The Races Farley Speedway
Farley, Iowa: The Farley Speedway hosted Dodge Night at the races as the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series presented racing action on the high banks of the fast track, Farley Speedway.
The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Model feature saw 21 drivers take the initial green with teammates Jeff Bair and Luke Merfeld piloting the Simons Trucking Late Models sitting on the front row. The two young hotshoes battled for the lead early with Bair leading the race. As the race worked past the midway point Bair was able to extend his lead over Merfeld as Ace Ihm closed in on Merfeld to set up a late race challenge for second. Merfeld had a tire going down as the race wound down allowing Ace to get by and take second spoiling a Simons Trucking sweep. The finish saw Bair take the win by several car lengths over Ihm who just nipped Merfeld for second. Jeff Tharp turned in another top five taking fourth ahead of Jeff Aikey.
Ron Barker scored his tenth win in 13 starts in the NASCAR modified division at the Farley Speedway in 2004. Barker continued his outstanding season by taking the lead from Jan Messer on lap number 10 and went on to score the win. Scott Nesteby got by Messer to score second as Messer enjoyed a great run in taking third ahead of Johnny Spaw. The Modified feature was red flagged on the first lap for a wild flip involving Randy Less. Fortunately Less was uninjured in the accident that saw him roll on the front chute.
The NASCAR Pro Stock feature provided a wild finish with three drivers having a shot a the win on the final turn. Jeff Reinert scored his second win of the season by beating Jimy Brokus and Bobby Moyer to the checkers. The three entered turn three of the final lap in a bunch but Reinert was able to hold his line and scored the win by a very narrow margin.
Jason Rauen chased down race leader Kelly Welter and took over the top spot on lap number seven en route to the win. Rauen took the win over Welter, Ed McIntyre and Jarvis Eastlick.
Mark Massey extended his point lead in the B-Modified division by scoring another feature win. Massey came from deep in the pack to take the win over Jacob Seegmiller and Bryan Coder.
John Flury took the green in the ten lap Farley Flyer feature in the last position and drove through the field and took over the lead on lap number seven and held off Brandon Simon for the win. Joe Zrostlik took third in the feature.
