Jeremy Mayfield, Bill Elliott & Ray Evernham Highlight NASCAR Racing On Craftsman Night At Farley Speedway
Farley, Iowa: Craftsman Night at the races featured a visit by NASCAR Nextel Cup Stars Bill Elliott and Jeremy Mayfield along with Dodge Motorsports team owner Ray Evernham. The Farley Speedway’s Palace Ballroom hosted the three celebrities for an autograph session prior to the start of the on track racing action. Mayfield, Elliott and Evernham took part in a match race featuring the three racing in NASCAR Modifieds. Elliott won two of three match races using a classic slide job to slip by Evernham in the third match. Elliott won bragging rights over his teammate and car owner by winning two of three races.
The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Model feature saw Jeff Aikey use a lap 15 caution to shoot by race leader Gary Crawford and the second place car of Curt Martin using the high side to take over the lead. Aikey went on to hold off several late race charges by Martin to score the win. Aikey added another valuable win to his resume in his chase for a strong finish in the NASCAR Midwest Region.
Jeff Tharp crossed the stripe in third ahead of Darren Mish.
Scott Nesteby ran his recent win streak to five in row by topping the NASCAR Modified 20 lap feature. Nesteby took over the top spot on lap number 14 by moving past Mike Burbridge. Ron Barker charged to the finish line and nipped Burbridge at the line taking second. Burbridge finished in third ahead of Steve Wetter.
The NASCAR Pro Stock feature saw Jimy Brokus and Bobby Moyer work to the front from their 8th and 9th positions starts. Moyer took the lead on lap number 4 but was unable to hold off Brokus as he rode the high line to the lead on lap number 7. Brokus went on to score the win over Moyer, Jeff Reinert and Jeff Valentine.
B.J. Schmitt scored the win in the action packed 10 lap NASCAR Hobby Stock feature. Schmitt led the race flag to flag as the action for second was truly wild. The last lap scramble saw Duane Ahmann take second ahead of Luke Goedert and Jerry Merkes.
Jeremy English was the class of the field in the B-Modified division. English took and impressive win over Ken Boyes and Jacob Seegmiller.
Phil Holtz was able to earn the feature win in the Farley Flyer class on Thursday night. Holtz took the checkers just ahead of Becky Roth and D.J. Laughlin.
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing will return to the Farley Speedway on Friday, August 27th on EDSB/Drew Cook & Sons Back To School night at the races.
