Aikey First To Repeat In NASCAR Late Models At Farley Speedway
Farley, Iowa: 103 drivers jammed the infield at the Farley Speedway for night number 5 of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series of the 2003 season at the high banked ½ mile dirt track. The action packed night featured outstanding wheel to wheel multi grooved racing in all classes from start to finish.
Jeff Aikey became the first Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Model driver to visit victory lane twice in the very tough division in 2003. Aikey came into the night as the point leader, which put him back in the sixth row to start the 25 lap main event. Aikey was the fifth different driver to lead the race, Rob Moss led the first two laps before Curt Martin took over the point position. Denny Eckrich then was able to move out front until a broken tie rod in the right front sidelined the #50. Steve Boley then took his turn out front of the 24 car field. Boley led a few laps before Aikey was able to take the lead riding the high line of the extra wide track. Aikey went on to score the win over Martin, Todd Davis and Bobby Hansen.
The Quarter Master Modifieds took the green with Mark Schulte taking the lead and it appeared as the young man from Delhi might just get his first win in the strong division. Schulte was leading Ron Barker on lap 13 when his drive shaft let go ending the run for Schulte. Barker took over on the restart and went on to record the win over Jason Schueller and Mike Burbridge.
Ty Kleiner recorded his second consecutive feature win in the Pro Stock division on Friday night. Kleiner took the 15 lap feature win over Chris Simpson and Bob Moyer.
Mark Massey continued his unbeaten streak in the B-Modified class taking his fifth consecutive feature win. This one was not easy for Massey as it took 8 laps for Massey to catch Jacob Seegmiller and get by on the white flag lap to take the win. Massey earned the hard charger $100 bonus from Choo Choo Charlies and East Dubuque Savings bank on Friday night. Seegmiller and Scott Moffitt followed Massey across the finish line.
Jason Rauen took the lead on lap four in the Hobby Stock feature and went on to record the win. Rauen started 7th and worked to the front taking the lead from Mike Hughes in route to the win. Rauen dedicated this win to his late nephew Lucas Spiegel who passed away a couple of weeks ago. Randy Benn took second ahead of B.J. Schmitt.
23 Farley Flyers took the green flag in the 10 lap feature for the 4 cylinder division. Point leader R.J. Simon advanced all the way from the sixth row to take the lead in the middle of the back chute on the last lap to score the win over Joe Zrostlik. Simon led the final ½ lap in taking the checkers first. Phil Holtz took third on Friday night.
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action will kick off the long Memorial Day Weekend with racing on Friday, May 23rd with hot laps taking to the track at 7 p.m. at the Farley Speedway.
