1ST Annual Denny Ansel Memorial Race Announced
DUBUQUE – Iowa: The family of Denny Ansel and Simmons Promotions Inc., announces the 1st Annual Denny Ansel Memorial Race, May 23rd, at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds, Dubuque, Iowa. Hot laps will start at 6pm with racing beginning at 6:30pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $4 for students. The Denny Ansel Memorial Race is in memory of Tri-State area Hall of Fame stock car driver Denny Ansel, who passed away May 24th, 2003 of cancer. Portions of the admission fee collected that evening will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Dubuque. Participating stock car drivers will visit fans during intermission passing their helmets for donations plus a raffle will be held. The Ansel family will also contribute $250 towards Make-A-Wish. Ansel had a distinguished stock car racing career, spanning over 35 years. Ansel won numerous championships and awards, including winning the Sportsman Championships at the Dubuque County Speedway in 1983-84. Ansel was the only stockcar driver to race every year at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds until ending his career due to his health in August 2002. Ansel was inducted to the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway Hall of Fame in 1999. Ansel, and his wife Betty, owned and operated Ansel’s Auto Service & Towing in Dubuque for over 23 years. Raffle items include: 1-24” Mountain bike, 1-20” children’s bike, and gift certificates from Hardees, Miller’s Saw Center, and The Hair Studio – Kathy Clancy Stylist.
