Rogers Scores First Ever NASCAR Late
Model Win At Dubuque Speedway
The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series
presented by Dodge was in action on a very hot night at the Dubuque County
Fairgrounds Speedway on Sunday, July 21st.
Jon Rogers won his first ever NASCAR
Late Model feature in the 25 lap main event. Rogers spun on the first lap and
was realigned on the tail on the restart. But Rogers was able to close in on the
leaders late in the race by using the high line on the multi-grooved smooth
track. Rogers took the lead with two laps to go and went on to record the win
over a very strong Steve Johnson. Veteran Gary Webb took third in the main event
ahead of Denny Eckrich.
Ron Barker recorded his 25th
feature win of the season in the Modified class on Sunday night. Barker earned
the hard fought win by beating point leader Jason Schueller to the checkers by
less than a car length. The two popular Dubuque Modified drivers raced side by
side for more than ten laps of the 20 lap feature without touching. Both Barker
and Schueller started the race in the sixth row. Schueller settled for a very
close second ahead of Jed Hurst and Sean Rupp.
Jeff Tharp recorded his fourth NASCAR
Pro Stock feature win of the season at Dubuque on Sunday night. Tharp came from
deep in the pack to take the checkers ahead of Jeff Reinert and Jeff Valentine.
Larry Benn scored the NASCAR Hobby
Stock feature win by beating Jim Turpin to the checkers. Benn drove his
multi-colored Monte Carlo to the win and announced in victory lane that the car
is now for sale. Benn has purchased a Late Model and will be moving up for the
2003 season. Jed Frieburger celebrated his birthday with a third place finish in
the main event.
Jason Roth drove his Toyota to his
second consecutive feature win in the Farley Flyer division on Sunday night. 15
year old Roth took the win over Randy Leehan.
Wednesday, July 24th the
Dubuque County Fair will present the Julien Dubuque Classic with the NASCAR
Weekly Racing Series in action at 7:30 p.m. The 2002 Fair will conclude with
race day at the Fair with NASCAR racing on Sunday night July 28th at
7 p.m.
