McGowan Scores NASCAR Late Model Win
At Farley Speedway
The Farley Speedway hosted the NASCAR
Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge on Friday, August 16th. The
night was sponsored by Wilwerts Harley Davidson and included the “Ride your
Harley to Farley” promotion. Approximately 75 Harley riders took part in the
special parade lap.
24 NASCAR Iowa Illinois Taylor
Insulation Late Models took to the track for their 25 lap feature on Friday
night. When the checkers flew it was the number 3 of Josh McGowan taking his
first feature win of the season. In 17 feature events McGowan has finished out
of the top five only twice. McGowan started in the tenth position and chased
down early leader Ace Ihm, and took over the top spot on lap ten. McGowan went
on to record the impressive win over Denny Eckrich and Jeff Aikey. McGowan
strengthened his hold on second in the point standings and the win will help his
CPI in the Midwest region as the Farley Speedway track representative.
The Quarter Master Modifieds put on
another outstanding race on Friday night with the two Dubuque veteran racers
Scott Nesteby and Ron Barker providing the thrills of 20 laps of side by side
racing. Nesteby scored his second consecutive feature win on Friday night taking
the win over Barker by ˝ a car length. Nesteby was forced to drive a perfect
race, one minor mistake and Barker would have claimed the win. Larry Herring
took third ahead of Jason Schueller.
Two weeks ago Ty Kleiner’s night
ended with 30 feet of guard rail wrapped around his Pro Stock. On Friday night
the night came to a close for Kleiner with his fifth feature win of the 2002
season at the Farley Speedway. Kleiner used the bottom of the smooth track to
get to the front and then went top side to race away for the win. Jeff Tharp
turned in another strong performance in taking second over Bobby Moyer.
Steve Dunkel found the high line to
his liking and scored his second NASCAR Hobby Stock feature win of the season.
Dunkel was challenged late in the race for the win by Jason Rauen. The two came
to the checkers door to door in turn four, Dunkel had the outside line and
crossed the checkers about six feet ahead of Rauen.
Becky Roth drover her Toyota
nicknamed “Delores” to her second consecutive Farley Flyer feature win. Becky
outraced her younger brother Jason in scoring the 10 lap feature win.
A special thank you goes out to
Wilwerts Harley Davidson, who provided all feature winners with a $100 bonus for
their efforts.
Racing will continue on Friday,
August 23 with hot laps taking to the track at 7 p.m.
