Aikey, Barker, Kleiner, Turpin & Simon Score Farley Wins

The Farley Speedway played host to the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge on Friday, June 7th. The high banked ½ mile dirt track was groomed to perfection and provided three wide racing on a very smooth surface all night long.

The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation 25 lap NASCAR Late Model feature saw Jeff Aikey repeat his performance from one week ago in scoring the win. Aikey led the race from green to checkered but had a comfortable lead erased on lap 18 when the caution flew for debris on the racing surface. Ray Guss Jr. had worked into second but was unable to challenge the quick running Aikey after the restart. Aikey took the checkers with a ten car length advantage over Guss with point leader Denny Eckrich taking third.

Ron Barker won his sixth feature in 8 starts at the Farley Speedway in the Quarter Master Modified division. Barker was able to work through traffic using both the top of the track and the bottom on his way to the front from a fifth row start. Barker took the lead from Scott Nesteby on lap 10 and went on to record the win. Rich Smith battled with Nesteby for several laps before securing the second position.

Ty Kleiner took advantage of  a slight miscue by race leader Dan Shelliam in the 15 lap Pro Stock feature  and took the lead with three laps to go and went on to record the win. Kleiner was battling with Shelliam for the win but it appeared that Shelliam was going to get the win before sliding a little too high in turn three on lap 12 allowing a slight opening for Kleiner. That was all that was needed for Kleiner, the pass was made coming into turn 4 and Kleiner went on to the win. Shelliam took second ahead of Jeff Reinert.

Jim Turpin scored his third win of the season in the very tough Hobby Stock division on Friday night. Turpin advanced all the way from the 12th starting position in scoring the win over B.J. Schmidt.

Young R.J. Simon won the Farley Flyer feature in only his second night of racing. Simon drove his Chevrolet Cavalier to the win over last week’s winner Jason Roth. Simon and Roth battled the last five laps with Simon taking the win by a car length.

The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series action will continue at the Farley Speedway on Friday, June 14th with racing slated for 7:30 p.m.
