Aikey 3-Peats At Farley Speedway
The Farley Speedway played host to
Dodge night at the races sponsored by Tauke Motors of Dyersville with the NASCAR
Weekly Racing Series in action on the smooth fast high banked ½ mile dirt track.
The fans were treated to an excellent night of wheel to wheel racing excitement.
Jeff Aikey continued his recent hot
streak by winning his third consecutive Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR
Late Model feature. Aikey chased down race leader Rob Toland and battled with
him for several laps before finally securing the top spot on the 20th
lap. The two hot shoes swapped the lead several times before Aikey was able to
use a diamond move coming out of turn two to take the lead for good. Toland ran
second to Aikey with Dave Eckrich taking third at the finish line ahead of Denny
Eckrich.
Ronnie Barker of Dubuque, Iowa
won his seventh feature in nine starts at the Farley Speedway on Friday, June 14th.
The win will increase the bounty paced on Barker by $50 making it $350 in effect
Friday, June 21st. The Bounty will increase by $50 per week in the
event Barker continues his winning streak, according to Keith Simmons of Simmons
Promotions. Any Modified driver who is able to beat Barker with Barker running
competitively will collect the Bounty at the Farley Speedway. Ronnie Barker will
be able to collect the bounty money by winning out the remainder of the 2002
NASCAR point season at the Farley Speedway.
Ty Kleiner won his second consecutive
NASCAR Pro Stock feature on Friday night and his third in a row at SPI promoted
events. A Dubuque win was sandwiched between the two Farley wins for the popular
driver from Potosi, WI. A lap 8 restart found Kleiner in fifth but the restart
was just what Kleiner needed to aid his march to the front. Kleiner took the
lead from Jim Brokus and went on to score the feature win over Jeff Tharp and
Brokus.
The NASCAR Hobby Stock feature was
decided at the checkers with Jason Rauen scoring the win by a mere three feet
over Jerry Merkes. The win was Rauen’s second of the season at Farley. Rauen
used the extreme top side of the track to get to the front from his mid-pack
start. Merkes took second ahead of Mike Hughes and Steve Dunkel.
Young Jason Roth drove his 1986
Toyota to his fourth Farley Flyer feature win on Friday night. Roth took the
lead early and went on to an impressive win over R.J. Simon.Front row starter
John Flury took third in the 10 lap feature.
Friday, June 21st the
Farley Speedway will host Mid-Season Championship races with a 35 lap NASCAR
Late Model Feature headlining the program. All five classes of cars will be in
competition, challenging for the Mid-Season Championship titles. Race time will
be slated for 7:30 p.m.
