Barker Repeats
The Farley Speedway hosted the NASCAR
Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge with a bonus night of racing on Friday,
May 10th. Two 25 lap Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation Late Model
features were run in addition to a full program in all the support divisions.
The racing action was sponsored by Performance Bodies of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The first Late Model feature belonged
to Steve Boley, the Ron Alpen Ford Mustang shot out front at the drop of the
green and never looked back on his way to a flag to flag feature victory. Boley
scored an impressive win on the super fast tacky track. Josh McGowan continued
his consistent top five streak at Farley with a second place finish crossing the
stripe ahead of Dave Eckrich.
The last race of the night was the
second NASCAR Late Model feature. Dave Eckrich used a 20 lap restart to set up a
move that would net him his first win of the season. Eckrich darted to the
inside of race leader Dan Galant and took over the lead at the flag stand on the
restart. Eckrich held the lead the remainder of the race in scoring the win.
Galant took second after leading the majority of the race. Terry Neal took the
checkers in third ahead of Rick Wendling.
Ron Barker continued his recent hot
streak in the Quarter Master Modified division. Barker started tenth and quickly
worked his way to the front, the 37B of Barker took the lead away from Larry
Herring on the fifth lap and went on to win his third feature in four tries at
the Farley Speedway in 2002. Herring trailed Barker the entire distance in
taking second ahead of Jason Schuller.
Jeff Tharp won his first feature of
the season in taking the checkers in the Pro Stock main event. Tharp overtook
early leader Bob Moyer on his way to the win. Moyer followed up a win from a
week ago with a second place finish. Jeff Kennedy rounded out the top three.
Jim Turpin made his first ever trip
to the Farley Speedway victory lane on Friday night. Turpin topped a strong
field of Hobby Stocks in leading the 10 lap feature flag to flag. Larry Benn
took second ahead of Jason Rauen.
Travis Kaiser added his name to
Friday night’s winners list by scoring the win in the all new Farley Flyer
division. The win was Kaiser’s first ever win in only his fourth night of
racing. Jason Roth took second ahead of Mark Jaeger.
Racing will continue at the Farley
Speedway on Friday, May 17th as Johnny B Goods presents 50’s night at
the races. Special prizes will be awarded for 50’s attire and several other
surprises are in store plus a cruisers car display.
