Aikey Scores First Win Of  2002 At Farley

Jeff Aikey broke out of an early season slump at the Farley Speedway by winning the 25 lap Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Model feature on Friday night.

The three time defending champion has been struggling so far this season, but  Aikey was able to get to the front early taking the lead on the fifth lap from  Rob Toland. Toland would later fall out of the race, leaving Ray Guss Jr in second. Guss was able to close on Aikey but was not able to mount a serious challenge. As the laps wound down Aikey had built a comfortable lead leaving Guss and Denny Eckrich to battle for second. The two drivers swapped second several times in the late going, Eckrich was able to gain control of second with three to go. Eckrich took second to Aikey with Guss and Darren Mish rounding out the top four.

Ron Barker added another Quarter Master Modified division feature win to his already  dominant 2002 season. Barker took the green in the 20 lap feature in the 10th position and quickly worked to the front taking the lead on the fourth circuit. Barker held off a strong late race challenge by Mitch Way to record the win. Way finished a very close second ahead of Larry Herring.

Jeff Tharp scored his third win of the season in the NASCAR Pro Stock feature division. Tharp was able to work the low side of the track to perfection on his way to the front from a sixth position start. Tharp was challenged by Ty Kleiner in the late going but was up to the  challenge in scoring the win. Dan Shelliam came on strong late in the race to take third.

Jim Turpin of Shullsburg, Wisconsin scored his second win of the season at the high banked ½ mile dirt track. Turpin came all the way from the 11th starting position in winning the 10 lap Hobby Stock feature. Jerry Merkes took second to the  strong running Turpin. T.J. Leslein turned in another fine run in taking third.

Jason Roth made his third visit to victory lane on Friday night topping the Farley Flyer feature event. Roth drove his 1984 Toyota to the win over Travis Kaiser and Steve Driscoll.

NASCAR Weekly Racing Series action presented by Dodge will continue every Friday night at the Farley Speedway with race time slated for 7:30 p.m.
