MLRA Open Late Model Shootouts to Invade SPI Tracks Posted on August 01, 2015 at 03:32:50 pm Simmons Promotions is proud to announce that 2 big Late Model Specials will be up next on the 2015 schedule. The Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association will bring the cars and stars of open Late Model racing to Simmons Promotions Farley Speedway on Monday, August 3rd and to the West Liberty Raceway on Tuesday, August 4th. Monday Mayhem at the Farley Speedway and Tornado Tuesday at the West Liberty Raceway will feature heat race qualifying with a passing point system being utilized, no time trials, both nights action will be slated to get underway at 7 pm.
Terry Phillips of Springfield, Missouri is the current 2015 MLRA point leader; Phillips is expected to be on hand in hopes of scoring feature wins which will offer up a $10,000 first place prize each night. A host of the Midwest’s top guns in the world of dirt Late Model racing will be expected for these 2 huge events. Jesse Stovall of Billings, Missouri is currently 2nd in the 2015 points; Stovall will be racing along with fellow point contenders Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, Jason Utter of Columbus Junction, Iowa, and Chad Simpson of Mt Vernon, Iowa, who is also the defending MLRA series champion. The state of Illinois is expected to be represented by Bobby Pierce, Jason Feger and Shannon Babb, traveling stars such as Arkansas veteran Billy Moyer is expected along with his son, Billy Moyer Jr. who won the UMP stop earlier this year at the Farley Speedway. Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida is expected to be on hand racing a car owned by Larry Mohring of Freeport, Illinois. Local stand outs such as Justin Kay, David & Denny Eckrich, Chris Simpson and Joel Callahan will also be on hand looking to defend the home turf.
In addition to the MLRA Open Late Models, the local IMCA Late Models will race both nights with a top prize of $1,000 on the line.
Camp sites with electrical hookups are available at both the Farley Speedway and the West Liberty Raceway. The Farley Speedway is located just west of Farley, Iowa on the south side of US Highway 20, exit 300, in Northeast Iowa. The West Liberty Raceway is located on the Muscatine County Fairgrounds in West Liberty, Iowa on the east side of town.
