Klinkkammer Joins Winners List at
West Liberty Raceway
True Value Hardware Stores and
Liberty Communications sponsored the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by
Dodge at the West Liberty Raceway on Saturday night. Another excellent night of
racing was enjoyed by a good crowd on a beautiful summer night.
Mike Klinkkammer Jr. added his name
to the list of first time winners for the 2002 season in the very tough Iowa
Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Model Division. 26 drivers took the green
with Rusty Zook bringing the field to the green flag. Klinkkammer shot to the
front quickly from his third row start and was in the lead by the fifth lap.
Klinkkammer had built a comfortable lead when the race was slowed for a caution
with 22 laps completed. Denny Eckrich, current Late Model point leader, was in
second at the time. On the restart Klinkkammer moved away from Eckrich to score
the win. Eckrich took second ahead of last week’s winner Brian Harris. Mark Ward
and Jeff Bair rounded out the top five.
Darrall Brick extended his point lead
in the Miller Time Modified division by winning the 20 lap feature on Saturday
night. Brick helped his mother Karen celebrate her birthday by presenting her
with the feature win. Robbie Verbeck ran a very strong second but was not able
to mount a serious challenge on the smooth running Brick. Terry Lawson ran very
strong all night in taking third ahead of Todd Stoolman.
Andy Eckrich broke out of a pack of
challengers to take the lead at the midway point of the Dadco Corp. Parker
Stores Pro Stock feature and cruise on to the win. Jason Gingerich ran very
strong for the second week in a row in taking the checkers in second ahead of
Chad Simpson.
Matt Fulton scored his fourth win of
the season in the NASCAR Hobby Stock feature on Saturday night. Fulton led the
race flag to flag in crossing under the checkers ahead of Derrin Voss and Todd
Hansen.
Racing will continue on Saturday,
August 17th at the West Liberty Raceway. Racing will take to the ½
mile dirt track at 7 p.m.
