Rob Moss Scores First Ever NASCAR Late Model Win, Webb Takes Mid-Season Championship Title At Dubuque Speedway
Dubuque, Iowa: Sunday night July 18 racing action resumed at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway with Dodge hosting the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing action. A full program plus makeup features for the NASCAR Late Models and Modifieds were held providing fans with an action packed night which featured 9 main events. 107 drivers took part in the racing program.
The night started off with the two makeup features being run prior to the start of a new program. The 35 lap Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Model Mi-Season championship feature was won by the 2000 NASCAR National Champion Gary Webb. The race featured three and four wide racing the entire 35 laps as Webb battled with Andy Eckrich, Jeff Aikey and finally Luke Merfeld. Webb was passed by Merfeld, who had started the race in the tenth row, on lap number 26 but Webb was able to regain the race lead on lap later and maintain the lead to the checkers. Merfeld took second ahead of Eckrich, Aikey and Rob Moss.
The regularly scheduled 25 lap NASCAR Late Model feature wrapped up the night of racing. Rob Moss found the extreme low line around the track to his liking and drove a flawless race in scoring his first ever Late Model feature win. Moss advanced form the fifth row and out raced the likes of Aikey and Webb to score the impressive win. Aikey took second at the finish line ahead of Webb, Merfeld and Craig Jacobs.
The NASCAR Modifieds also had their Mid-Season Championship feature to make-up as well. Scott Nesteby scored his first win of the 2004 season by out dueling Ron Barker en route to the win. Mike Weideman and Jason Schueller rounded out the top four in the make up feature.
The NASCAR Modified Dodge night at the races feature event belonged to Barker. Barker turned the tables from the make up feature finish by taking the win over Nesteby. Sean Rupp ran in the lead pack the entire race in taking third ahead of Mark Schulte.
The NASCAR Pro Stock feature saw Dubuque driver Bobby Moyer take the lead from fellow Dubuquer Jimy Brokus on lap number 6 and move on to the 15 lap feature win. Brokus crossed under the checkers in second ahead of Bob Bollon.
