Webb Takes Julien Dubuque Classic Win At Dubuque County Fair
Dubuque, IA: The 2204 Dubuque County Fair hosted the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series on Wednesday night with the annual running of the Julien Dubuque Classic stock car racing special. 121 drivers packed the infield and raced in front of a huge crowd at the fair.
The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation NASCAR Late Models ran their 25 lap feature and provided plenty of three and four wide racing action. When the checkered flag fell it was veteran racer Gary Webb making his way to victory lane. Webb took over the top spot on lap number 7 and went on to hold off current point leader Jeff Aikey in the closing laps to score the win. Luke Merfeld followed up last Sunday nights win with another fine run, taking third on Wednesday night. Darren Mish and Rob Moss rounded out the top five.
Ron Barker advanced from a sixth row start to take the lead on lap number 4 of the NASCAR Modified feature and went on to lead the final 16 circuits in scoring the win. Barker was able to score a comfortable win as a hotly contested battle went on for second. Jerry Miles nipped Sean Rupp for second by less than a car length. Jason Walrack and Brian Culbertson rounded out the top five.
Jimy Brokus continued his recent hot streak by scoring another NASCAR Pro Stock feature win. Brokus took the checkers first topping a strong 22 car starting field. Jeff Kennedy and Dane Steiner ran second and third respectively to Brokus.
The Hobby Stock feature saw Jason Rauen put his Rauen Precision Machine car into victory lane taking the ten lap feature win over Jerry Merkes and Jim Turpin.
Mark Massey took over the lead in the B-Modified feature following a lap 6 restart. Massey went on to lead the remainder of the race in scoring the win over Bruce VanGordon and Jake Murphy.
A huge field of 33 Farley Flyers were on hand, three heats were run and the field was split with the running of 2 feature events. The first main event win went to Joe Zrostlik, who out raced young Brandon Simon for the win. The second main event was topped by Mike Klass taking the checkers ahead of Jeremy Campbell.
Sunday, August 1st will be race day at the Fair as the 2004 Dubuque County Fair comes to a close with NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing action taking to the track following the demolition derby. Hot laps are expected to get started around 6:30 p.m.
