6th Annual Liberty 100 Set To Take
Green At West Liberty Raceway September 20 & 21
The 6th annual “Liberty
100” will bring the curtain down on the 2002 racing season at the West Liberty
Raceway located on the Muscatine County Fairgrounds in West Liberty, Iowa. The
special event will be a Bud Open Late Model Shootout for the second consecutive
year.
Friday, September 20th,
the racing will include heats and consolations in all four divisions, Hobby
Stocks, Pro Stocks, Modifieds and the Bud Open Late Models. The headliner of the
Friday night program will be the 2nd annual Race of Champions. The
format will involve a minimum of ten drivers, the drivers will draw for
starting positions and will run ten laps then will have a ten minute caution at
which time they will be allowed to make changes on their cars on the front chute
in front of the grandstand. Then the final 15 laps will be run racing for a
$2,000 winner’s purse. Drivers already qualified for the “Race of Champions” are
Ray Guss Jr., Brian Birkhofer, Denny Eckrich, Steve Boley, Jeff Aikey, Dave
Eckrich and the yet to be determined 2002 “Yankee” champion.
Saturday, September 21st
the program will include last chance races in all four divisions plus the main
events being headlined by the “Liberty 100” lap feature for the Bud Open Late
Models. The “Liberty 100” will award the winner a $7,000 paycheck.
Both nights action will take to the ˝
mile dirt track at 6:30 with hot laps, racing will follow at 7 p.m. For more
