Curt Martin Rides High Line To Dubuque Speedway Win
Dubuque, Iowa: The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series returned to action on Sunday, May 17th following two consecutive rainouts at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway. An outstanding field of 104 drivers packed the pit area at the high banked 3/8 mile clay track.
The Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation Late Model feature took to the track with an excellent field of 23 drivers taking the initial green flag. Curt Martin took advantage of his front row start and led the 25 lap feature flag to flag. The win was certainly not easy for Martin as he was pressured the entire race. Darren Mish battled Martin early in the race before Denny Eckrich and Steve Johnson moved in to battle Martin for the win. As the laps wound down Jeff Aikey and Ace Ihm joined the lead pack. Martin took the checkers ahead of birthday boy Steve Johnson, Jeff Aikey, Ace Ihm and Denny Eckrich rounded out the top five.
Jason Schueller chased down race leader Mark Schulte and was able to take over the lead on lap 16 of the 20 lap Modified main event. Schueller started the race back in the fourth row and steadily worked to the front racing on the high side of the smooth track. Schulte ran very strong all race long in taking second ahead of Sean Rupp and Mike Burbridge.
Ty Kleiner continued his winning ways in the NASCAR Pro Stock division. Sunday nights win was Kleiner’s third in a row at SPI tracks. Kleiner started at the tail end of the invert but quickly shot to the front and led the 15 lap feature flag to flag. Bobby Moyer ran second ahead of Jeff Kennedy.
Mark Massey ran his unbeaten streak in the B-Modified class to seven features, this includes five straight at the Farley Speedway and 2 at the Dubuque Speedway. Massey took the win ahead of Jeff Baker and Ryan Duhme.
Jim Turpin took the lead away from K.C. Ansel on the white flag lap and went on to record the Hobby Stock feature win. Ansel retired to the pits after the white had been thrown and Mike Lynch came on to take second ahead of B.J. Schmitt.
Brian Kammerude took the ten lap feature win in the Farley Flyer division. Kammerude held off a fast closing R.J. Simon in scoring the win. Jeff Jorgensen crossed under the checkers in third.
